Very true actually. Seems all very low key and even though there isnt much else going on there doesnt seem to be that much attention for cricket. I suppose once Wimbledon is done it will pick up?

Most likely because it will take about 6 broken legs in the English team for the Aussies to have any chance. One sided competitions are boring. They've brought in Steven smith for his batting, that says just about everything there is to say!
Ed Cowan and Philip hughes can't play swing, and Michael Clarke isn't 100%. My money is on 4-0 unless the rain screws things up.

Ideally, to really kick the series off and put some momentum into the series, Australia have to win the first test...

IMO people are in for a surprise this Ashes series. Aus will surprise England the way they did in 1989. Aus fast bowling isn't that poor and their batting won't struggle the way it did in India.

But they are very very short on spinners. England have Swan and that will be a key thing. I won't be surprised to see some dry pitches prepared by English curators.

The Ashes end on the 25th August so they've got more than enough time to complete the game.

if you want a game after the Ashes... then again it might be "after" the Ashes by the second test (surely one of the final three will get rained out)...

I think there will be some people in Melbourne doing a rain dance for tests 1 through 4

I'm not saying they will be (fingers crossed) - there are tests in the north which increase risk of rain.
