Asia Cup 2014

Alright, time for me to cheer for Afghanistan. I really hope they win, so this Indian side is completely revamped. I still can't believe they didn't bring in the new players for the dead rubber. There's something seriously wrong. I was loving how pissed Gavaskar was.

Is it just me or ESPNCricinfo really is lagging behind by a few overs?

Slowed down by 15 mins due to legal injunction. Read it on there app.

Just logged in to say, wow. Pakistan played very well so far. Should have won against Sri Lanka in the first match aswell. Hope they win the final.

And Boom Boom keeps going with the bat, what a delight to the eye.

well we have seen the matches Afghanistan bowling is good as compared to India. they have also defeated Bangladesh.

This Asia Cup 2014 sponsored by Cycle Pure Agarbathies was fun. Till date, Sri Lanka has bagged most titles in Asia Cup series backed by Pakistan. I wouldn't be surprised if either of these teams arise victorious again. India's performance wasn't up to the mark; that's what I thought when I saw the previous matches. Waiting to see how well Afghanistan plays!

I think India has got the maximum number of Asia Cup titles, unless you dont count the ones that weren't contested properly. The Asia Cup has had a history of teams not playing due to the political rivalry. I think India has backed out twice, ditto by Sri Lanka & Pakistan once.

Interestingly in every match the team that has been listed as the "home" team has lost. Based on that and that alone, with the final being listed as Pakistan v Sri Lanka - congratulations Sri Lanka :D

Its a final .And its Sri Lanka !

Need I say any more ?:p

Was hoping for Pandey & Pujara, seriously what's wrong with these guys? Obsessed!

Even Gavaskar has questioned the same. I really dont buy Kohli's argument that a settled team needs to play now. If so, where is MS ? And if so, why is Rahane opening when you have a 'supposedly-settled' combo ?

Pujara & Pandey will soon join the great league of 'Cricketing Bartenders-only used for drinks'. Possibly, once the team is back in India, these two will get together with the likes of Mishra & Manoj Tiwary to celebrate the skills they acquired in Bangladesh. :mad

Anyway Srilanka is more probable to win the finals just based on the current form they are at.:p

True. I would have expected some of the bench players to be given an opportunity here.

Don't you think you're being a bit too harsh to include England along side Afghanistan and Ireland?

Its called a joke; although I don't really fancy England's chances in the ODI against Scotland in May.

England and India are probably comparable; teams with awful captains going through a transition period trying to find new players

Should we blame dhoni or kholi for this or is it the team management playing its hand here, one thing to note is kholi hadnt tried the new players in his Zim series also, even after winning the series he didnt give cap to rasool, same here with pujara and pandey, He could have easily rested Shami and Rohit and given these guys a chance, never seen sunny this pissed and for once he is very right. So is Kholi being shortsighted or someone else is controlling the selection.

I would argue, India transition is almost complete except in pace bowling, that to its more of finding better guys than replacing some old guy.
MSD is one of the best ODI captains, he is nowhre defensive or robotic like cook.Comparing these 2 teams is like comparing apple and oranges.

I think India are better than England in ODIs, but in Tests it's a different story. England might have been rattled in Australia by a suddenly great side, but the core of talent is still there. In their home conditions, they will be a handful, even without Pietersen. Our pace bowling doesn't have the resources to do any real damage to them as long as they don't produce greentops, something I would expect England to have learned after watching India in South Africa and New Zealand. They have no spinner to speak of, so they should prepare pitches that take spin out of the equation. Cook and Dhoni as test captains are equally terrible. I expect Trott will be back by the time we tour England. I would be surprised if we win more than one test.

I'm sure it is this, similar to Dhoni not many changes what so ever even though if the team has done bad, I am sure Dhoni and Kohli have had a contact over team selection.

Again brings us to the point-why select a squad of 15 then ? Select 12 and take them to whichever country you go to.

Until this Asia Cup, India have been the team that has won this tournament the most no of times (5 times). Its not Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka might equal India's record if they win this edition.

Something tells me that Kohli didn't have a very big hand in team selection (importantly, XI) matters since he is a stand-in captain. If he did, I would start worrying about India's captaincy contender.

Wonder what obsession do they have for not picking Pujara and Pandey? Both of them are talented and deserve opportunities in ODI's, more so Pujara. Pujara can score fast enough for ODI's. Rahane is a better hitter, so keeping him down the order is best. We did have Tendulkar and Dravid play together in ODI's in their latter part of their careers when Tendulkar slowed down in terms of aggression and began playing the sheet anchor role mostly in ODI's (and Dravid has been the eternal sheet anchor).

Ok let's get this clear first. Rahane is not a hitter. In IPL what we have seen from him is he will play normal cricket shots at the start and score runs but after powerplay when fielders go on boundary than he will just start to rotate strike so the person at the other end will start attacking. So basically he will anchor the innings. When he needs to hit big shots, he generally get out by getting caught on the boundary. Keeping him down the order is not a good move because he won't be successful there. He gets out when he is tries to break free and hit the ball. If we want to play Pujara and Rahane in the same team, they both need to bat at the top of the order and Dhoni needs to be there at the end. If Dhoni is not there at the end than we can't play both Pujara and Rahane in the same team because they won't go crazy when we need to score quickly, they will still try to go for cricketing shots. The problem is that Rohit blows so hot and cold that I don't know whether to pick him or not. If we are playing both Rahane and Pujara than Rohit has to sit out for me. I also don't know who will be our number 5 for the WC? Will it be Raydu, Raina, Yuvraj, or Rohit? We need to figure that out very quickly now because they need to have some experience at that position before the start of the WC.

Rahane
Dhawan
Kohli
Pujara
Rohit/Raydu/Raina/Yuvraj
Dhoni
Jadeja
