Asia Cup 2022 - Sri Lanka (UAE)

Excellent stuff from Sri Lanka! Definitely a very improved side. They have a few solid match winners in that lineup with the likes of Hasaranga, Rajapaksa, Shanaka, Mendis, Theekshana, etc. And it looks like they have found a good head to captain their side, in Dasun Shanaka. Finding that captain who can lead them well is a HUGELY important job and SL have it in Shanaka. Important thing is, Shanaka occasionally wins games by himself with the bat and that is inspiring..... They did get some help from the tosses early on, but today they squashed that theory to smitheerens (reminded me of how CSK bucked the "win toss win game" trend in the final of the IPL 2021 to beat KKR who won the toss in that final in UAE).....

This was a really entertaining tournament! How world cricket needs to move forward, is here for all to see! Now for the administrators to react to it.

You sure you still want him? This guy will ruin the dressing room with his politics!

@Na Maloom Afraad i will bet you everything in my pockets that this 40-year old senior player was waiting for this young team to lose so he can tweet random accusations, when he couldn’t learn to play pace in 25 years

Shanaka has always shown that he had leadership potential years ago and it was quite surprising that they did not go to him much earlier and considered Karunaratne and Kusal Perera before that. There was plenty of criticism for him too a few months into the role based on results with an incomplete and dysfunctional side from harsh critics. Glad to see all of those noise settle down and to see him win a trophy.

What a win from SL. Been a tough 6-7 years for them and this win definitely means a lot for them and should give them a lot of confidence. They've got promising talent and players who can step up and be matchwinners now, and more experienced players that have played in T20 leagues (Rajapaksa, Hasaranga, Theekshana etc). Shanaka had his ups and downs as captain with making tactical blunders and whatnot, but he's really shone this Asia Cup after that first defeat against Afg.

Would be tough considering it's in Australia, but SL could definitely be dark horses if they play like they did this Asia Cup. Just need some experienced pace bowlers back, Pathirana looks pretty good and should be the second pace bowler alongside Chameera.

Babar and Rizwan should not play the first four T20s against England just so their middle order batsmen can actually get some batting time in the middle. Or maybe just rejig the batting order so Fakhar can play with some freedom at the top for a quick start. Might be a bit difficult to catch up and get a big score if Pak are always 65/0 after 10 overs on the big grounds in Australia. It worked in the Asia Cup for the most part during the T20 WC and Asia Cup, but might not there.

As pointed out in this FB post below, Babar and Rizwan actually do very well when not batting in slow conditions (UAE, SL and Bangladesh, India and Pakistan have dead tracks usually). Just, they should adapt better and hit in the Powerplay in such conditions.
You can’t expect the middle and lower order to get 100-120 off 10 every time.
But might be a moot point, now that we’re probably never playing in UAE again.

Been a pleasure following a couple games with you guys, kinda like the old days. The Indian members on the forum seem to have loss their passion somewhat, was full of passionate and educated debates in the older days, really miss that.

So in good stead I say congrats to Sri Lanka on winning Asia Cup 2022, as a nation they’ve been in turmoil and this win surely will inspire the country.

The story for the 2023 Asia cup has already started with Pakistan being selected as the host team the BCCI are already contemplating pulling out of the tournament. Given their poor performance I think India will use politics as an excuse, refusing to take part in the 2023 tournament. On the other hand Asia 2023 champions could be India, in the host country Pakistan backyard.

Well played Srilanka. Truly deserved. 170 runs were too much for a high pressure Final game. Also, it should serve as a good wakeup call for Pakistan in terms of looking into a Shallow middle order. Babar should also learn to stay calm when the opposite side is hitting sixes. When you panic, it reflects in the entire ground. Tough game. Better team won.

Pakistan is going with too many half batsmen in the sides Iftikhar, Khushdil, and Asif. Only one can play within these three. We need to give chance to Haider Ali and bring back Shan Masood and Shoaib Malik to strengthen the line-up. I doubt though that they will learn from their mistakes the way Saqlian was handling media questions post match.
