Story Australia: New Coach and a New Era

Aussie Batsmen Dominate Day
Australia's batsmen have put in a fantastic day 3 effort to put the match seemingly out of reach for the West Indies. Resuming play at 5/332, Australia lost the wickets of Symonds (50), Haddin (10) and Johnson (7) in quick succession, seeing the tourists collapse to be 8/385. Brett Lee came to the crease and batted absolutely superbly, smashing the West Indies bowling attack all over the park. After Katich and Lee had put on a 202 run stand, Katich fell to Dwayne Bravo for an outstanding 242. Shaun Tait managed to hang in there long enough for Lee to get his maiden test century before he was dismissed by Collymore in the last over of the day for 3, leaving Binga on 104*. A final total of 606 off 200 overs gives Australia a 332 run first innings lead, and an ideal position to win the test.

Aussie Bowlers Wrap up Win
Australia have put in another great performance with the ball to wrap up the result of the first test. No one was was able to get going for the Windies with the team quickly collapsing to 7/113. A 90 run partnership for the 8th wicket between Bravo (72) and Bradshaw (58) added respectability to their score, before they were bowled out for 211. Smith (36) and Sarwan (19) were the only other batsmen to get double figures in a horrid batting display.

For Australia Brett Lee was outstanding, backing up his century with a terrific bowling performance. rHe ripped through the top order with frightening pace combined with good swing, and finished the innings with 6/53 from 20.4 overs. Lee was well helped by Johnson who picked up 3/57 from 19. Tait was the only other wicket taker.

ball seemed to bounce a little to high for the stumps there, so shouldn't of been called out, poor decision by the umpire

Hayden Answers Critics
Australia have batted their way to 6/310 from 93 overs at stumps on day one of the second test against the West Indies. Opener Matthew Hayden has been the star, batting out the day to reach 140 from 282 balls. An opening partnership of 68 between Jaques (38) and Hayden set up the innings, but Katich and Ponting fell cheaply and the score was 3/132. Hussey then came to the crease and battled for 46 in a 93 run stand, before he was caught in slip off the bowling of Sammy. A quick 30 from Andrew Symonds had the score at 4/306, however, with 2 overs left in the day Symonds fell caught behind to Sammy, and 3 balls later Sammy clean bowled Haddin with the score still on 306. Johnson and Hayden survived the remaining balls to see the score to 6/310 at stumps.

Matthew Hayden pulls Darren Sammy for 4

Darren Sammy has been the West Indies main bowler so far taking 3/73 off 25 overs, and has been the only bowler to really trouble the Aussies. Ian Bradshaw has been good with figures of 1/33 off 14 overs.

Windies On Top
The West Indies have taken a positive attitude out with them on day 2 with a great day's play. Australia put on a further 88 runs on day 2, with Hayden eventually being dismissed for 152 after probably being out LBW on a no ball first ball of the day. Johnson (24), Clark (25) and Tait (18*) added resistance and guided Australia to a total of 398. Sammy bowled very well to finish with figures of 5/93, and Bradshaw finished with 2/49.

The West Indies then had to bat and made the most of the 59 overs remaining, piling on 3/237 to move to a great position in the test. Chris Gayle made a blistering 97 from 124 balls, including two 6's. He and Chanderpaul (55 from 66) put on 114 for the second wicket in 21 overs, before Tait had Chanderpaul caught behind. Symonds took the key wicket of Gayle with the score on 198, but Sarwan and Ganga have put on an unbeaten 39 for the 4th wicket so far. This partnership may be the key for deciding the winner of this match.

Aussies in Trouble
Australia are in trouble at stumps on day 3, after a massive innings from West Indies' batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan. Sarwan composed a terrific innings of 177* in the teams' total of 6/524 declared from 137 overs, leaving the Aussies 126 runs behind. The declaration was an unexpected one with so much time remaining, especially with Sarwan at the crease and seeing it well. A bigger lead of 200+ could probably have been posted by stumps and still have 2 days remaining, but it's too late now. Sarwan was well supported by Ganga (69) and Bravo (62). Australia had to face 14 overs at the end and are reeling at 1/30, with star batsman Matthew Hayden back in the shed after falling LBW to a ripper by Collymore. This next day will be the biggest of the test, and Australia must still be batting at the close of play to have any chance of winning.

Game All But Over as West Indies Dominate
The West Indies are well poised to seize victory in the second test, requiring just 78 to win with 9 wickets in hand. The Aussies battled but were bowled out for just 278 in the 86th over, with only Jaques (55) and Hussey (78*) making any significant impact. Ricky Ponting scored 37 and Katich compiled 30. After being 2/125, a total of 278 really wasn't good enough and it is enough to cost them the match. Corey Collymore was the star with ball collecting great figures of 4/63. The Windies then had 18 overs to bat out and they made the most of them, reaching 1/75 at stumps. Smith is the man out for 23, while Gayle is unbeaten on 35 and Chanderpaul on 16. Brett Lee is the wicket taker.

Windies Wrap Up Victory
Australia were never in the contest on day 5 with the confident West Indies batsmen cruising to victory just 1 wicket down. Gayle (63*) and Chanderpaul (67*) were sensational with the bat, but no one was dangerous with the ball for Australia. This result levels the 3 match series 1-1, with the deciding test still to be played. Australia will go in favourites as they are still recognised as the best in the world, but against a confident West Indies outfit they better not get ahead of themselves.

Warne on Team: James Hopes has been playing well for Queensland lately, and on this deck he will be more effective than Symonds with the ball. It is our bowling that has struggled so that is where we will aim to improve. Stuey Clark has been finding it hard lately so will sit out this game and Hilfenhaus comes in for his debut, he should find a bit of swing and pace out there and hopefully they will find him hard to play.

Australia got owned in that 2nd Test. Plain and simple.

Australia have made the changes but I still don't think the bowling attack is good enough. Hopefully you will show me wrong, but Sarwan, Chanderpaul and Gayle are all world class batsmen.

Great work here, mate.

Australia have made a couple of changes after getting hammered which is expected. Interesting to see Hilfy come in for his debut, hopefully he can find some success!

Great work mate, kiu!

West Indies Blast Away
The West Indies are on their way to setting a formidable first innings lead with a big score of 6/347 at stumps on day 1. Australia were on top early with both openers in the dressing room at 2/56, but then a massive 173 run stand between Chanderpaul and Sarwan swung the game around. Shaun Tait finallly managed to trap Sarwan (69) in front with the score at 3/229, and then Hopes came on and removed Ganga for 7, which saw the score at 4/252. Two overs later Hopes struck again, getting a thin edge of Chanderpaul to Haddin for a terrific 149 from 227 balls. A 63 run stand followed for the 6th wicket, until Lee struck, sending back Richards for 21. Ramdin and Bravo (51*) saw off the remaining overs to see their side to 6/347 off 96 overs. James Hopes has been good with 2/67 off 20 overs, and has been well supported by Brett Lee (2/93 off 24). Mitchell Johnson (0/42 off 15) has been economical but hasn't posed much of a threat.

West Indies have got themselves off to a nice start here with Chanderpaul leading from the front. Hopes has been impressive, Lee has been ok too but Johnson has been disappointing.

Great work mate, kiu! :)

Chanderpaul and Sarwan got the match back into West Indies' control after a poor start. Chanderpaul awas simply awesome whilst Sarwan and Smith batted brilliantly, but less than 400.

Enjoyable reading, mate, keep it up.

Deciding Test Hanging in the Balance
Australia have fought back on day 2 to get the series decider back onto even terms. After the West Indies dominated day one, the Aussies took 3/17 to see their opposition collapse to be 9/364. However a very scratchy 69 run stand between Sammy (45) and Collymore (24*), with plenty of plays and misses, saw them to a good total of 433. Australia started their innings well with a 55 run stand for the first wicket before Matthew Hayden ran himself out for 14. Ricky Ponting and Phil Jaques then came together for a vital 109 run partnership, until Ponting was trapped in front by Dwayne Bravo for a well made 54. The cheap dismissal of Simon Katich just before stumps hurt Australia and leaves them at 3/192 off 64 at stumps, with Jaques not out on 101. Bravo (1/54 off 14) and Bradshaw (1/24 off 13) are the 2 wicket takers.

Australia would be in a tremendous position if it wasn't for the last wicket partnership of WI. They're still in a good position however and need Jauqes to carry them through to a big total. I reckon they'll get around 400.

Easy to read mate, great writing.

Aussie Tail Does Damage
Australia are in a good position to win the test as they cruised to 9/498 at stumps on day 3. Jaques and Hussey resumed the innings in ideal form, adding 103 runs for the day before Hussey (58) was dismissed. Phil Jaques (150) didn't last much longer, and when he fell they were 5/304 and on the back foot. Haddin struggled once again and when Sammy dismissed him for just 6, the Aussies were in all sorts of trouble with the scoreboard reading 6/323. Hopes and Johnson then put on a much needed 72 run partnership for the 7th wicket, and when Hopes was removed for 61 Australia were 7/395 and in a much better position. However Brett Lee (1) and Ben Hilfenhaus (10) were both out quickly and the West Indies were back on top, albeit slightly, with Australia 9/409 and still 24 runs behind. Enter Shaun Tait. The tail ender came in and together with Johnson combined for an unbeaten 89 run stand for the last wicket. Johnson is 75* off 147 balls at stumps, while Tait is 40* from 59 balls. With another 2 days to go, Australia's current lead of 65 runs could prove very handy, especially if these 2 are able to add another 20-30 runs early on day 4. Once again the Windies have relied on Sammy who has proven himself once more with figures of 5/115 off 40 overs. However he is their only multiple wicket taker.
