Story Australia: New Coach and a New Era

Look forward to seeing Marcus North do battle in this Aussie team, he shall do well young fella.
Keep up the good work mate, good story, but like Jaz said, a little write-up on the teams and their changes would be handy. Other then that.. spot on

Yeah I probably will, cricket is WAY more important to me than footy but I prefer following footy in winter. So we'll see.

Aussies win in close encounter
Australia have gone to a 2-0 lead in the 5 game one day series against the West Indies after a nail biting win in the second match. After winning the toss and batting first on a pitch with a bit of life in it, the West Indies recovered after an early wicket thanks to a 231 run stand for the 2nd wicket between Gayle and Chanderpaul. At 1/265 they were cruising and on target for a massive total. However Australia's bowlers bounced back and restricted the runs at the death to keep the Windies to just 7/293 off their 50 overs, still a very large total that would take a lot of chasing.

After losing Jaques early, Ponting and Hayden got the innings back on track with a 51 run partnership for the 2nd wicket. When Ponting fell they were 2/78 and on the back foot. Marcus North (53) came to the crease and with Hayden put on a further 118 runs to take the Aussies to 3/194 when he fell. Another 50 run stand followed and when Hayden fell Australia were in the box seat at 4/244 with plenty of overs remaining. They chased the runs down inside the final over after losing a further 3 wickets, but from that point they were never really in doubt.

West Indies 7/293 (50)
Gayle 136 (70)
Chanderpaul 115 (15)
Hussey 2/7 (1)
Watson 2/53 (10)

Australia 7/294 (49.1)

Hayden Blasts Aussies to Series Win
Matthew Hayden has almost single handedly ensured Australia of a win in their one day series against the West Indies. Hayden once again reached triple figures for the 3rd time in as many innings as the tourists cruised to a 65 run victory to wrap up the series win. After Chris Gayle sent Australia in to bat, Hayden and Jaques put on a match-winning 136 run opening partnership. From there they just kept going without any other major contributors, and ended up on 5/306 from their alotted overs.

The Windies weren't going down without a fight as their opening pair put on a blistering 70 from 63 balls to put them right back into the match, but then another 3 quick wickets saw them fall to 4/105 with Australia right on the front foot. Regular wickets fell and they were 8/197 with 18 overs to go and the match seemingly beyond doubt. Despite a minor scare with the last 2 putting on a 44 run partnership, Australia took the win with ease to go up 3-0 in the 5 game series.

West Indies snare first victory
The West Indies have upset Australia in the 4th one dayer to win by 16 runs and prevent a series whitewash. With the series result decided coming into the match it was a dead rubber, with just pride on the line. The Windies won the toss and decided to bat first, a decision which was soon shown to be the correct one as 3 big partnerships in a row between Gayle, Smith, Chanderpaul and Sarwan guiding the Windies to 3/262 with overs to spare. The lower order continued the effort to end up with a massive total of 5/325 from their 50 overs.

Australia knew that they would have to attack from the onset to have any chance of victory and Jaques and Hayden made their intentions clear, blasting an 89 run partership from 15 overs to get off to an ideal start. Wickets fell at regular intervals and the West Indies were restricting Australia's scoring well, with the scoreboard reading 4/170 after 34 overs, with 156 to win from just 16 overs at a run rate of nearly 10 per over. Katich and Hussey came together for a breathtaking 121 run stand from 83 balls to see Australia almost back in the game. However the score remained just out of reach and the West Indies kept them to 6/305 at the close of innings to record an inspiring victory.

West Indies 5/325 (50)

Samuels, Taylor lift Windies to victory
The West Indies have finished their one day series against Australia in style with a 4 wicket win in the final match. After losing the toss, the Windies put in a marvellous bowling performance to have Australia at 8/126 after they were 2/75 off 19 overs. The tail batted reasonably well thanks to Mitchell Johnson (38*) to take the score to 9/185 off their 50 overs.

Australia came out with an attacking mindset and had the Windies in trouble early at 2/15, and when Sarwan fell they were 3/46 and the Aussies were right back in it. However a 66 run stand followed by two 30 run stands prevented Australia from ever being a real chance and thanks to Samuels' fine innings (98*) the West Indies won the game with 9.3 overs to spare.

Shane Warne on the team: "With just a 2 match test series here we don't really have time to try out any new players without risking the series. So we have gone with the usual side and on a flat pitch we would expect to at the very least draw the match. Phil Hughes was in the 12 man squad but in the end there just wasn't anyone wh didn't deserve their spot, so maybe he will come in for the next test depending on how the boys go."

Aussies Crumble, Recover
Australia have recovered on day 1 of the first test against the West Indies after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Hayden fell early for 19 off the bowling of Islam, and next over Ponting made a golden duck when he was caught off the bowling of Rasel, reducing the score to 2/31. Phil Jaques (34) and Hussey hung around for a while but when Jaques was trapped in front the scoreboard read 3/96 and the Bangladeshis were right on top. However a terrific 149 run partnership between Hussey (126) and Katich followed, taking the total to 3/245 before Hussey was finally dismissed. Symonds fell shortly after that for just 3 and the game was back in the balance at 5/251. Mitchell Johnson was next in and ensured some stability followed, compiling an unbeaten 19 to guide the Aussies to 5/288 at stumps on day 1. Katich is also not out on 76.

For Bangladesh, there have been no real standouts with the ball as all the bowlers have done their bit. Sharif has been the pick of the bowlers with 2/51 from 18 overs, including the vital wicket of Mike Hussey. However, they will need to bowl very well tomorrow to make sure that they wrap up the innings quickly and prevent a total that will be too hard to chase.

Australia 5/288 (94)
Hussey 126
Katich 76*
Sharif 2/51 (18)
Islam 2/104 (25)

Hussey and Katich seemed to be the only contributors in the innings so far. On such a poor pitch, you'd expect better from the Australians

No surprises even if we see Bangladesh getting crumbled within 100 runs during their batting. I feel, Aussies are very comfortable till now. :)
