Not really because the wall is not far away from the rope. From the cricket that I have seen there have been plenty of cases where a fielder is standing on the ropes and the ball is coming towards him, he jumps and tumbles backwards over the ropes. There is potential that the fielder can hit his head on the fence. Obviously it wont happen every time but when I saw those fences thats the first thing that came to my head.
and thats why you have padding. baseball fielders are always trying to make those catches, as for them "touch" doesnt count as miss catch, unlike cricket, if you touch the rope, its a 4/6. so they get hit on the head a lot, and thats why the padding
