Australia tour of New Zealand 2010

We need to work on our death bowling, in the same position as yesterday the Kiwis managed to get the RRR back to a run a ball. So either our batsmen have been unable to hit out or our bowlers have been unable to bowl yorkers. Its definitely the latter for me, the Kiwis were excellent in the death overs which meant that RRR never came back down and they kept taking wickets.

Definitely need to get Voges out of the side and get Clarke in there to add the stability, he just needs to fix his game up when we have a cracking start. Pacing is another issue, batting first we seem to start fast or steady and then go steady all the way to the 40th over and then try and accelerate although it usually leads to wickets and us getting about 270 when we should have got 300. Chasing second seemed alright until yesterday Hopes and Hussey let the RRR get out of hand but the two previous games we cruised so really dependent on our top 4. Still wouldn't mind Steven Smith replacing Hopes or Hastings/Christian as we could use a bigger hitter.

Yea the death bowling is a bit of an issue now with Lee not around. Bollinger, Harris are pretty average at the death - while Johnson is decent. Hauritz more times than not would go the distance @ the death as well. I reckon Watson is probably the best death/batting power-play bowler AUS have which is not good.

This is why i would still advocate Nannes & Tait being in the ODI team. Nannes has always been excellent yorker bowler all the times i've seen him in the IPL in the past 2 years. While if Tait keeps fit as we saw in the 2007 WC his death bowling is very effective.

Hopesy is pretty safe for as well. If Smith should/could replace anyone as i suggested it should be Hauritz (presuming Smith's bowling improves alot between now & the 2011 WC)

1. McIntosh
2. Watling
3. Williamson
4. Taylor
5. Guptill
6. Vettori
7. McCullum
8. Franklin???
9. Tuffey
10. Southee
11. Martin

I would try Nathan McCullum he looked good in the 5th ODI but I haven't really followed him so don't know if hes a good FC bowler. With Williamson you have your 4th seamer and I don't think Franklin is effective enough. Definitely would get Kane in though, if I was a Kiwi I would be promoting him as much as I have for Smith as his figures are brilliant and like Smith hes performed at the perfect time.

The selectors seem to think Patel is better at the longer form, with McCullum better in the short forms. Williamson is an offspinner.

Neither Tait or Nannes have been stand outs in the FRC, for some reason Nannes hasn't been able to kick on in OD. I know this season he only played 2 games but the season before he wasn't as stand out either. Tait likewise, had a pretty average season by his standards so its hard to back him to make a return in ODIs. If we played some ODIs against Pakistan in England then it might have been worth giving him a go but he'll have to prove hes still got it with SA next season.

Hopes probably does have his spot wrapped up for the time being but I wouldn't lock him in for the WC yet. It is in India so having a 2nd spinning will be handy and his batting is more explosive and more what we could use at 7.

Oh ok, well guess Franklin will do then.

New Zealand Cricket - Sinclair included in BLACKCAPS squad for Test series against Australia

Such a bad looking team it must be said. Fully expecting Australia to win by an innings at least in the first game.

Well, Sinclair does score a mountain of runs, he's the NZ Ramprakash. Kings of fail. But, I do like his strokeplay. great to watch when in full flow.

Really can't believe they didn't pick Williamson based on Howsie sig, the man is in form probably the form man in the country. Get him while hes hot as there is no better time to blood him than now.

Ingram, and Sinclair... :facepalm
The only reason their bloody DOM records are so good is, they play half there games on McLean park, where almost anyone who bats will score runs!!!
Where the flip is Williamson???
I guess Arnel and Patel will be going for one spot, and Sinclair and Ingram going for one spot.

Lol, just realised only one player form each of CAN, OTG, and WEL.
The other ten are all from ACK, CD, and ND.

McIntosh
Watling
Ingram
Taylor
Guptill
Vettori
McCullum
Tuffey
Patel
Southee

That's what they'll most likely play for the first match.

And none of the injured players are from those regions as well :) though Bond does play for Canterbury.

Worst thing is they've already come out and said they think he's the best batsmen in the country, so if he is why isn't he in the team? BJ Watling was picked for the test team before he was ready, can't see why they don't do the same thing with Williamson.

They wouldn't call Matthew Sinclair up and not play him, same with Ingram. Both the radio commentators at the ND game reckon they'll go with six batsmen and four bowlers, so Patel and most likely Brent Arnel will miss out.

Some players just step up on the international stage though. So i wont really stress of Nannes doemstic OD form in the FRC. Based on the what i've seen of him on T20s i be surprised if he struggles in ODIs. He would be just as effetive as Bollinger with the new white-ball - while being a better death bowler than Dougy.

Same thing goes for Tait. We know what he can do when fully fit in ODIs as he displayed in the 2007 WC. His fitness is the main thing, if between now & the 2007 WC he proves he can bowl 10 overs well without breaking down he has to go to the WC. Even if Lee returns. He like Nannes would solve the death bowling issues.

Hopes probably does have his spot wrapped up for the time being but I wouldn't lock him in for the WC yet. It is in India so having a 2nd spinning will be handy and his batting is more explosive and more what we could use at 7.

When AUS won the Champions trophy in India 2006. The second spinner wasn't that important. Playing two spinners probabaly will depend on the conditions at various grounds in IND/SRI/BANG during the WC though. But looking at the IPL in India in the last 3 years i haven't seen to many turners. Even so Hopes & his off-cuters on those surfaces can be fairly effective too.
