Australia tour of New Zealand 2010

Well played NZ, pitch definitely wasn't as easy as the other ones. Think its shown how poor our death bowling is as I'm sure NZ in the same position would have made a fist of things but whenever the run rate goes out of hand we are next to no chance.

3-2 scoreline sure flatters NZ.

I disagree. I think it Sums up the series well. First two games were close, next two were Australia and the last one ours, rather close series overall but Australia did deserve to win it

Huh? New Zealand won the first ODI, almost won the second one and put in a good performance today (with the ball anyway). How is 3-2 flattering for New Zealand.

3-2 is a good reflection of how the series went. Australia won the series, yes, but they didn't have it all their own way. They really had to fight hard at times unlike the meek surrenders that the West Indies and Pakistan offered up.

I think he's being bitter. Australia deserved the series considering how poorly we played at times, particularly throwing away wickets with the bat but only just. That second game...well the weather probably saved Australia. D/L went badly against us with the run rate and taking away our power plays. 12 runs more in that game and we had the series. I'll take such a close series. Australia are a top ranked side. We're 4th. The scoreline reflects about where i'd like us to be at. The performance was a bit below - too many gifted wickets.

Glad we hammered Australia in this last game though. Gotta love it.

Wow that was a shocker, 2 today for the Aussies, hate seeing rank bad calls like that. I never mind losing if we are beaten fair and square. My mind always goes back to Peshawar in 98, after Taylor made his 334* we got an amazing amount of awful decisions against us by the Pak umpire.

I agree, however so far we've had 2 pretty ████ calls too. Taylor's LBW and Pontings non LBW. They've evened out. At the end of the day ████ decisions ruin games and the sooner the stupid ICC add referrals to ODIs the better.

Not bitter at all, it just happens to be my opinion, just because you disagree there's no need for your attitude. In the end its another one day series in amongst many that will be forgotten down the years.

Finally, after a couple of months of ODI thrashings we can finally get back to some good ol' 5 day cricket. Hopefully it won't be a flop like most Trans-Tasman series.

Always nice to have a consolation win. Good to see Styris finally got that 50 after a series of 40's and Tuffey's batting form has been impressive.

Ye basically, just like the 2005, 2006 & 2000 tours to NZ.

All that can be taken from this series is that Australia obviously remains the best ODI team (South Africa very close if not even). The balance in the team is set, only change (looking ahead to the 2011 WC) is that a fit Lee would replace Harris - or Tait if Lee doesn't ever come back. Plus maybeeee Smith could replace Hauritz if his bowling keeps improving.

But NZ looking ahead to the 2011 WC, if they are at full-strenght should do very well. Good enought to make the world-cup final i'd say.

We need to work on our death bowling, in the same position as yesterday the Kiwis managed to get the RRR back to a run a ball. So either our batsmen have been unable to hit out or our bowlers have been unable to bowl yorkers. Its definitely the latter for me, the Kiwis were excellent in the death overs which meant that RRR never came back down and they kept taking wickets.

Definitely need to get Voges out of the side and get Clarke in there to add the stability, he just needs to fix his game up when we have a cracking start. Pacing is another issue, batting first we seem to start fast or steady and then go steady all the way to the 40th over and then try and accelerate although it usually leads to wickets and us getting about 270 when we should have got 300. Chasing second seemed alright until yesterday Hopes and Hussey let the RRR get out of hand but the two previous games we cruised so really dependent on our top 4. Still wouldn't mind Steven Smith replacing Hopes or Hastings/Christian as we could use a bigger hitter.

I'm hoping our line-up for the first test will be:

1. McIntosh
2. Watling
3. Williamson
4. Taylor
5. Guptill
6. Vettori
7. McCullum
8. Franklin???
9. Tuffey
10. Southee
11. Martin

Need some variation in the attack, which is why I've gone with Franklin, I rate both Vettori and McCullum as better batsmen than him, that's why he's down at eight.
Hopefully Ingram doesn't play, which means Williamson is the obvious choice at three, he also provides the second spinning option, meaning Patel doesn't need to play.
All of the other positions more or less pick themselves, three pace bowlers are pretty predictable, unless the selectors go with an unknown the likes of an Arnel, ahead of the pretty out of form Martin, or Franklin.
I like that opening partnership, so don't think any chance is needed there. Also four, five, six, seven combo is fine, so no chances needed there as well.
