Australia tour of South Africa 2018

One question arises in my mind. Why is it that often it is the teams with the best bowling attacks in the world that resort to such tactics. South Africa, Pakistan and now Australia. Is it the pressure of not getting wickets despite having such a potent attack that leads to such acts?

It seems you're a bit uninformed about cricketing history. This isn't really exclusive to one team. They all do it. It's one of those worst kept secrets of cricket. Although, if you find new ways of doing it like this instance, or Afridi biting the ball then you'll stand out.

I'm assuming you're an Indian fan, and please forgive me if that's presumptuous but you might want to do some quick research on Indian ball tempering. There is plenty there. It's the culture of Aussie cricket that bothers me personally.

I am very well aware of the ball tampering episodes that have happened. My point was a bit different. I can understand a team with poor bowling attack willing to do something stupid to give them an advantage.

What I do not understand is teams with the strongest bowling attacks doing these stupid things to gain advantage

Either way it is wrong and pathetic. Doesnt matter who does it.

In those instances of ball tampering in the past it appeared an on the spot thing. This present one in SA is a calculated pre meditated, organized way of cheating.

Agreed with you many teams with a fast bowler capable of exploiting reverse swing attempt aging the ball quickly be it to reverse or have a replacement ball reverse. Its this underlying factor why we are witnessing over the years the art of pace bowling slowly eroding, every fast bowler wanna swing it.

Agreed. It just depends in my opinion. Test match cricket is brutal and can take a toll. If the wickets aren't falling then you can do crazy things. I think they should do away with the Kookaburras and use the English Dukes. Would probably swing more. The game has tipped a ridiculous amount in favour of batsmen and it's no longer fun to watch test cricket. (Yes, I am aware of what NZ is doing presently. I just mean as a general trend). Surely though this kind of thing is, as you said, "wrong and pathetic" despite who does it.

Just read the Aus Govt have all but requested Smith’s sacking, in addition to all those involve in the conspiracy. Very likely Mitch Marsh is part of the leadership group?
The question is why only him? Isn't it evident that the coach himself was involved, everyone's involved pretty much. I mean why in the world would they do this and not inform their bowlers? And tbh I don't think this is the first time in modern era, teams have done this, it's just that they're the first ones to get caught. Smith was only a puppet here.

Agreed heads should be rolled in upper management as well. However the buck stops with the captain he is the guy leading those players on the field and to put that on a rookie of 8 tests in Bangerz shows weak and distasteful leadership.

Again I agree this has occured in the past in other teams however they (Aussies) used a foreign object, brought on the field of play for the specific use of altering the ball condition, never seen before in the history of this beautiful game!

Or perhaps witnessing a better display of swing from the opposition bowlers than their own bowlers. That will surely add to the frustration.

If it turns out that they both stepped down just for this test, then it's even more disgraceful and pathetic than if they had done nothing. This is just passing the buck and burdening someone else with your mess. The loss should still go to Smith as captain if it does come, which seems probable at the moment. Change your behaviour and live with it as captain, or give it up for good. What is this lingering in the middle?

EDIT: Some quality reflection on the press conference from Michael Holding in the box.
