Australian Domestic Cricket

Man, Warner has express MASSIVE interest in playing FC and test cricket, I think you are not informed! At no stage has Warner said anything other than that he is desperate to play FC and test cricket. All along he's said that time and again.

Fed-up Warner open to offers - Domestic Cricket - Fox Sports

Yeah for sure, but he certainly hasn't followed that talk up by putting his money where his mouth is. If he was REALLY desperate for Shield and Test cricket I think he'd be moving states.

I doubt it's that simple though, there's obviously plenty of factors involved. Maybe he's super confident of outbatting his NSW rivals for a spot this summer - that might be a good thing. Or maybe he realises the prestige of getting a NSW spot and how heavily that weighs with selectors (OK, lets just call it NSW bias :laugh).

Funny thing with the NSW bias is there is no one on the panel from NSW IIRC.

Hah - yeah I know. I don't think it really exists too much. But I think the NSW matches are more closely monitored. In the recent past it's been because a couple of the captains came from there and quite a few senior players. Therefore if you played well against NSW, you'd impressed half the Australian team effectively. And if you were a young kid who made the NSW team then it was the same - an impressive feat just to make it.

Maybe he got assured of a spot in the shield team? Other states wouldve jumped at his services so NSW must have offered him something.

Hard to see that happening, they said he would have to work his way into the team. With the Test side on duty there might be a spot
Jaques
Hughes
Khawaja
Forrest
Smith
Warner/Thornely/Henriques
Nevil

That is assuming Smith and Hughes don't make the Test side. Maybe he was banking on that making his path easier. With the ODI side on duty Katich would take Warner's spot unless Forrest doesn't carry his form on.

Warner is an example of the "modern" play that frightens me. He expresses no interest in FC cricket and is happy just playing a few internationals a year for AUS and then mercenary style domestic Twenty20.

Its a startling approach to a career and unfortunately I think this will slowly become the norm.

Dwayne Bravo worries me more; Warner has at least kicked up a bit of a stink about not playing Shield cricket, but Bravo has tasted the big time yet is still rather outspoken in his loyalties to his Twenty20 sides ahead of the West Indies.

Ben Rohrer. And with promising young opener Nic Maddinson coming through, there's another batting spot that Warner's not going to get.

Agreed, Bravo and Gayle are worrysome charectors as well. Even Symo

Both Gayle and Bravo have no problem playing for the West Indies. Thats where they are signed and thats who they represent. They haven't missed any international matches because of their contracts with other teams.

Yea but the statements they make in the media don't exactly make them out to be purists of the game

Just because they prefer one format over another doesn't mean that they will stop representing the West Indies in test cricket. Gayle is the captain of the team and its a job he likes and does well. Bravo is one of the most valuable players for the team as he showed in the last test series against the Aussies and will also represent the West Indies in tests over any other team and format.
They are free to make whatever statements they want. They are grown men and can prefer one over the other, they play the game we don't. We are armchair cricketers but they experience these things.
Do I agree with some of their statements, not always but its their opinion.

You could turn it around and simply ask yourself for how long you'd enjoy playing Tests for the West Indies before you got sick of it. To be fair to those players, one must remember that Test cricket in their experience is considerably skewed from the ideal. Even Bangladesh would have more optimism.

The thing Gayle and Bravo have in their favour though is that they'll ALWAYS be picked for a West Indies XI - whatever the format, wherever the match. Dave Warner doesn't have that luxury so he has to work for his spot.

And angry's spot on, Gayle and Bravo seem to me just to be reflecting how they're kinda bored with losing Test cricket all the time so they're excited that they could be winning more often in a shorter format that suits them better.
