Some minor shuffling in an overgrown list, muchly aided by players going elsewhere. Smith loses out in the great keeper battle of 2010 and some rookies who will probably return. Stuart Clark retains his contract in spite of having no intention to play on.

Opting for new growth, a swath of seasoned players have been cut loose. Burns made a splash with a hundred in his first game last year and is unsurprisingly rewarded. Robinson also debuted last year and is considered a strong player with a wealth of runs behind him. Young opener Corey Barsby also made a debut after a dominant grade season, but he's still only 19 and the son of Queensland batsman and coach Trevor Barsby will have to make do with a rookie slot.

In re-dealing their rookies, South Australia snapped up a delisted Joe Mennie from NSW. It's a minor coup, but it's the sort of thing that has paid off for SA before. Darren Berry has said that Dan Cullen may also be in the mix if he produces the goods in grade cricket.

Some serious changes ushered for Tasmania and yet, it seems they were already aware of the steps they were having to take. Each of Denton, Griffith and Geeves were potent in their day but had long been limited by injury and Tasmania have already made the transition to using young players like James Faulkner. Gulbis and Johnston played a few games for their former states last year, while Bird was an exciting club bowler, but with substantial space in their list, it is Tasmania who reaps the rewards. Nick Kruger had already committed to Tasmania and played well when offered the chance to open towards the end of last season. They have the Shield, came second in the Cup and could well be a better team next season.

Victoria have very explicitly committed to their youth, removing most of their senior players and upgrading most of their rookies from last year. In fact, 19 year old Jackson Coleman is the only player under the age of 35 to be let go. The MaxWOW was the Vics' highlight of last year, while Carters and Sherridan played many games. In addition to promising swing bowling of Gilmour, we'll hope to see the return of bustling fast bowler Jayde Herrick's awesome headband. Handscomb is a batsman, while Boland and Reid are fast bowlers and all three played for the Victorian 2nd XI last season.

Although they've been landed with the bill for North and Voges, WA have cut several players to make room for three additional high quality recruits. Duffield and Harris were rewarded for coming to the party in a nasty season. Tom Beaton also had a promising debut, but not enough to move off the rookie list. Mat Dixon was spotted as an exciting young fast bowling talent last year and rightly nets a contract. Joel Paris recently opened the bowling for the Australian u-19s in Dubai. Michael Johnson is a highly rated gloveman who has previously held a WA contract.
