India Vs New South Wales - Tour Match

India arrive at the SCG for their first look at Australian conditions in 2 years as they take on New South Wales in the first of 4 tour matches before the 3 test series against Australia begins.

In an interesting move, Sachin Tendulkar has been promoted to number 3 while Rahul Dravid drops to 4. V.V.S Laxman is rested for the first game as India go in with 5 bowlers, including both spinners Kumble and Singh.

The wicket prepared by the SCG staff is green and has alot of grass coverage. This may prove a headache for the usual spin friendly Indians, however will provide valuable experience ahead of the tests.

The New South Wales field a team depleted team lacking international players McGrath, Clarke, Katich and Lee.

Whats the big deal in facing a weak Indian team? After all, the tail starts from No. 5! :p

NSW ARE GONNA WIN THIS ONE!

Quicks Fire Early - NSW 10/120

Agit Agarkar and Ashish Nehra did the early damage for India as the depleted New South Wales lineup was rolled for only 120 runs on a green pitch at the SCG on day 1 of the 4 day trial game.

Agarkar took 3/24 while Nehra took 3/28 to allow their batsman an hour and a half at the NSW strong bowling attack which includes the likes of test hopefuls Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clarke and Stuart MacGill.

Tendulkar Falls Short As India Pile On Runs - India 10/327

Sachin Tendulkar entertained the Sydney crowd with a stylish 96 as India piled on 327 runs on the 2nd day of the tour match.

It was a worthwile batting practice for the tourists with Rahul Dravid (52), Sourav Ganguly (46) and Virender Sehwag (39) all getting amongst the runs. However it was Tendulkar who stole the limelight as he powered to 96 from 193 balls before he was caught by Michael Phelps off the bowling of Stuart Clark.

Captain Rahul Dravid appeared pleased with the result.

"Games like these are great for the confidence. I know a lot of the guys were starting to hit the ball in the middle and the bowlers were nicely in their rhythm which is a real positive. Im personally happy that we played on a green-top as it will give us an indication on things to work on to be successful this summer."

(Indian Captain)

NSW Captain Brad Haddin appeared optomistic about the result:

"Well we probably would have liked to have performed a little bit better but these matches really allow the younger guys a chance to gain some experience against top players. It was really good to see some of the guys like Phil Jacques and Ed Cowan step up against a strong pace attack and still makes starts. We will take a lot from this game"
