Queensland Vs New South Wales - GABBA

Queensland 9/266 defeated New South Wales 6/257

NEW SOUTH WALES

Simon Katich - Batted well in an innings of 54 from 45 balls at the top of the order. This innings will help put pressure on selectors to stick with the middle order batsman.

Michael Clarke - Started strongly with 27 from 23 balls before being trapped by Nathan Hauritz. Would be hoping for bigger things in the longer forms of the game to build momentum going into the test.

Nathan Bracken - Bowled well without taking a wicket to have figures of 0/40 from 10 overs. Will be disappointed to not take a wicket but showed enough promise by tieing down the likes of Hayden and Maher.

Brett Lee - Bowled with typical pace to claim 1/35 to be the pick of the pace bowlers. Appears to have carried on strongly from his South African tour success.

Glenn McGrath - Another tight display from the worlds best paceman. Did his job at the top of the bowling order to take figures of 0/35 from 10 overs with 2 maidens. Will be happy with the hit out and will look for wickets in the longer form of the game.

Stuart MacGill - Took 3/62 from 7 overs to claim best figures for the match. Was very expensive but his wicket taking ability may come to the fore when choosing the test team.

QUEENSLAND

Matthew Hayden - Scored a brutal 82 from 126 balls to lead his side to victory batting at his traditional position of opener. Put on 99 with Jimmy Maher for the first wicket to set his side up for their large total. Will carry an enormous psychological boost leading up to the test.

Shane Watson - Was disappointing in only making 8 runs from 3 balls before being bowled by the spin of Katich. Disappointingly was not used by Jimmy Maher in the bowling ranks and will hope to improve in the 4 day Pura Cup game coming up.

how did this game suddenly pop up in the india tour?

because the austrlaians have arrived home to play a few ing and pura cup games while the indians warm up. this will help to choose the squad aswell

Was the NSW - Queensland match from this years ING Cup? or did you play it on C2005? But good idea though!

Victoria Vs South Australia - MCG

South Australia 3/165 defeated Victoria 10/162

VICTORIA

Brad Hodge - Was desperate for a big performance to put himself in the mix for the Australian selections this summer. Unfortunatly could only manage 27 before being trapped in front by Tait.

Shane Warne - Coming off a very successful tour of South Africa, the worlds best bowler looked to keep the innings tight to keep Victoria within reach of a victory. Ended up with 1/40 from 10 overs.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Shaun Tait - The only redback to be in contention for Australia showed signs of his top ING Cup form. Claiming figures of 3/36 from 10 in a display that set up South Australia for an easy victory.

good idea of ingcup warmup matches, and nice presentation!

Good win there for South Australia, they seemed to have recovered frm the loss to India in my story.

Anyway when are you starting the best story competition for this month.Hopefully today?

Western Australia Vs Tasmanina - WACA

Tasmania 4/203 defeated Western Australia 10/197

Western Australia

Adam Gilchrist - Made a successful change back to first class cricket off a great South African tour with 50 from 64 balls. Will look to continue his hot form in the test series.

Justin Langer - Would have liked to have scored some runs here after missing the one day series but could only manage 11. Will retain his opening position with Hayden.

Damien Martyn - A big innings was needed from Martyn to put him in the front of the minds of selectors. Unfortunately the number 4 could only manage 25.

Michael Hussey - After a strong one day series will be firmly in the thoughts of selectors. Only managed 25 but may have done enough in South Africa to earn a baggy green cap.

TASMANIA

Ricky Ponting - The Australian skipper was looking for a nice hit out to relax into the Australian summer. He looked on track for a big score before he was adjudged LBW to Brad Hogg for 49. Looks in good touch and will be dangerous on home soil.

Bloody close the match!

Any way, is there any connection between the Aussie away kit colour being green and the fact that Aussie captain hails from Tasmania? :D

AUSTRALIAN 12 ANNOUNCED

The Australian test team for the first test against the West Indies starting tomorrow has been named with Nathan Bracken, Shane Watson and Michael Hussey the suprise inclusions in the lineup.

Bracken will return to the side for the first time in 2 years, his last test being against India in Steve Waugh's farewell at the S.C.G. Watson's selection appears to be due to the need for Australia to develop a top class allrounder like Andrew Flintoff of England. While Michael Hussey has appeared to do enough at limited overs cricket to justify a call up to the test team.

Brad Hodge's unlucky streak has continued as he was named as 12th man, but it appears that Hodge will be next in line for a call up should a place arise. Coach John Buchanan appeared happy with the side.

"I think this team gives us a little bit more balance. Nathan has bowled very well at the GABBA and gives us a left arm swing option that we havent had before. Shane has been coming along very nicely and he needs to gain some experience against the top teams and he will allow us to take 5 bowlers and 5 batsman into the match. Michael Hussey has proven lately that he is ready for a baggy green cap and he will slot in nicely at number 5."

John Buchanan
(Australian Coach)

The trio will replace the out of form pairing of Damien Martyn and Simon Katich, while Jason Gillespie may face a long stint on the sidelines with a broken ankle.

Australian lineup for the first test against India in Brisbane:

1. Matthew Hayden
2. Justin Langer
3. Ricky Ponting (c)
4. Michael Clarke
5. Michael Hussey (test debut)
6. Adam Gilchrist (vc)(wk)
7. Shane Watson
8. Shane Warne
9. Brett Lee
10. Nathan Bracken
11. Glenn McGrath

12. Brad Hodge

Thats the first step of Cricket turning into football. Home and away kits & subs. What next - Card?

Hopefully Hussey will have a better test debut here.
Good to see the great detail in this story with the Domestic match updates to track the performances of the Australian players.
