Khan Strikes Again - Australia 5/147

Zaheer Khan again broke through for the visitors to have Australia in trouble at 5/147 with the wicket of wicketkeeper batsman Adam Gilchrist for 22.

After a series of full deliveries outside the off stump, Khan tempted Gilchrist into playing the pull shot with a short pitched ball outside the off stump. Gilchrist made a swing at the ball which produced a top edge that flew high in the air to Ajit Agarkar at mid wicket who took a comfortable catch.

Michael Hussey will now be forced to rely on his international one day experience to bat with the tail. Australia will have to bat cautiously as they have only 10 players available to bat with Shane Watson missing the rest of the test with a shoulder injury.

Kumble Picks Up Rival Spinner - Australia 6/148

Indian leg spinner Anil Kumble picked up the wicket of his counter-part, Australian leg spinner Shane Warne for a duck to leave Australia at 6/148 as they chase down 191 to win the 1st test in Brisbane.

Kumble had Warne given out LBW attempting to sweep a Kumble flipper that cannoned straight on to Warnes front pad, hitting the Australian hero right in front of off stump.

Hussey Compiles First Half Century - Australia 6/159

Michael Hussey justified his inclusion in the test side by making a crucial half century on debut as Australia limped to 6/159 chasing 191 to win. Hussey has showed that his one day international form can transend to the test arena with a lengthy and controlled 111 ball unbeaten half century.

The Western Australian will be crucial if a depleted Australian lineup is to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in Brisbane.

Kumble Bags Lee - Australia 7/168

Anil Kumble sent shockwaves through the nervous Australian dressing room as he dismissed paceman Brett Lee for only 3 and left Australia in a vulnerable position at 7/168.

Kumble had deceived Lee with a straighter delivery that struck the batsman straight infront of middle stump. Lee played all around the delivery, with his bat closer to the line of just outside off stump. Kumble has come into his own on day 4 of the match, highlighting the fact that the spinners were going to be dangerous later on in the match.

Michael Hussey now only has Nathan Bracken and Glenn McGrath to work with if they are to salvage a victory.

Singh Claims Bracken - Australia 8/169

Harbhajan Singh continued the Australian rot as the home side slipped further into misery at 8/169 chasing only 191 for victory. The off spinner claimed his first wicket of the innings as Nathan Bracken edged an attempted cover drive to wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik without scoring.

Bracken attempted to drive Singh through the cover region but could only manage a fine edge which was well taken by Karthik, giving the wicketkeeper some hope, all be it faint hope, of retaining his spot in the 2nd test.

Khan Claims Historic First Test Victory - Australia 9/183

Indian paceman Zaheer Khan is on his way to becoming a national hero after claiming 5 wickets for the tourists as they defeated Australia by only 7 runs to win the first test in Brisbane.

Khan took the final wicket of Michael Hussey for a critical 68 from 155 balls as victory was ripped from the mouth of the Australians midway through the 4th days play.

Khan returned excellent figures of 5/56 from 18.4 overs as India went 1-0 up in the best of 3 series.

Hussey was the final wicket to fall in the match. His defiant half century coming to an end as he chopped on a leg cutter while attempting to drive through the cover region. Heartbreak for the home side while India appeared overjoyed with the result.
