Tendulkar Falls Cheaply - India 3/40

The Indian top order slump continued with star batsman Sachin Tendulkar falling to his arch rival Glenn McGrath for only 3 as the tourists slipped to be 3/40 on day 4 of the 1st test match in Brisbane.

Tendulkar was caught at square leg by Michael Hussey attempting to guide the ball down to fine leg. However slight movement from a McGrath delivery that was heading down the leg side caught Tendulkar off guard, forcing him into a loft leading edge that produced a simple catch for the test debuton.

India are now in a great deal of trouble. With only Guatam Gambhir standing up to the Aussie attack which has looked to contain the flairy strokeplay from the Indians. At the current point in time Gambhir has faced almost 100 balls and is yet to pass 25. Showing great courage backing up from his century in the first innings to really dig his heels in to steady the ship.

Ganguly Falls To Lee - India 4/105

Sourav Ganguly appeared to be re-igniting the Indian 2nd innings batting card with a stylish 16 to take India to 4/105 when he was dismissed by a brutally fast bouncer from young quick Brett Lee.

Ganguly looked in good touch, following on from his 60 in the first innings, before he was caught playing late on a short ball from the New South Wales paceman. Ganguly produced a leading edge as he looked to roll his hands and force the ball to the ground. The large meaty edge flew straight into the air and eventually into the awaiting hands of Michael Hussey.

The pressure now firmly rests on 1st innings hero Guatam Gambhir who will now have to bat with an extended tail as he looks to pass 50 and extend the Indian lead in a bid to win the 1st test.

Karthik Falls To Watson - India 5/106

Young Queensland all rounder Shane Watson continued Indias misery as they slipped to 5/106 in their second innings of the first test match. Watson snared young wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik for only 1 from a beautiful ball that flew through to wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist.

Watson used his natural away swing to shape the ball away from the batsman, who tentatively prodded at the ball. The ball was good enough to catch the fine outside edge which carried through to Gilchrist who took a straight forward keepers catch.

This could well end the tour for Karthik, with 24 year old wicketkeeper MS Dhoni snapping at his heals for a place in the test team and will be expected to replace Karthik for the next match.

Gambhir Continues Run - India 5/110

Indian Opener Gautam Gambhir continued his perfect start to his Australian tour with an unbeaten half century to follow on from his century in the first innings.

Gambhir has been the only light for an otherwise dark day for the tourists, his 50 in the Indian total of 110 showing how vital it has been. His half century came off a lengthy 125 balls and included 9 boundaries, 2 of which cleared the rope.

Australia have done a good job in containing the left hander by forcing him into playing flashy shots, however the opener has picked his balls and has played with common sense.

If the trend of wickets continues, it appears Gambhir will have to be still at the crease at the end of the innings if the tourists are to be in with a strong chance of victory.

India under a lot of pressure here, 1 more wicket now and they could be gone for 150 or less.

Australia Tighten Screws - India 5/126

The Australian bowling stocks of McGrath, Lee, Warne, Bracken and Watson tightened the screws on the Indians late on day 3 of the first test at Brisbane. After the tourists, lead by opener Gautam Gambhir and former captain Sourav Ganguly, made 10/328 in the first innings Australia appears to have adopted a more defensive style of play to frustrate the tourists.

It has been Gambhir who has again played the leading role for the tourists, remaining not out on 66 in an innings in which no batsman has passed 20. Gambhir has taken his side to be 5/126, a lead of 174 runs.

Shane Warne (1/9) and Brett Lee (1/58) have been the bowlers most looking to threaten the tourists but all bowlers have claimed 1 wicket a piece.

Yeah Dhoni is a better batsmen and is equally good behind the stumps.

The speculation in playing only 6 batsmen might prove to be India's undoing here. Trust Gambhir to hold fort. Kumble, Harbhajan and Agarkar are no mugs with the bat as well. This is turning out to be a typical match against Australia in their backyard. Good work mate and a rather belated "Welcome back".

Yes but I don't think they will be able to hang around long on a seaming pitch with Lee and McGrath bowling.

Gambhir Falls To Lee - India 6/126

Left handed opener Gautam Gambhir's brave fight ended in just the 2nd over of the 4th days play as he fell to a tight Brett Lee delivery to leave India at 6/126 as they look to set a total to defend against Australia.

Lee produced the crucial breakthrough for the home side with just his 2nd ball of the over and the 8th of the day. Lee forced Gambhir onto the backfoot as the opener looked to force the ball between gully and point. However Lee did enough to bring the ball back into Gambhir which cramped the first innings centurian and forced a simple edge which was taken by Adam Gilchrist.

Lee Bounces Out Kumble - India 7/127

Brett Lee continued the misery for India early on day 4 of the 1st test match as he dismissed leg spinner Anil Kumble for a lengthy duck to leave India at 7/127.

Kumble had provided a solid partner for Gautam Gambhir as he hung around for 42 balls without scoring. However once his partner was dismissed 2 overs earlier, Kumble attempted to get ontop of the New South Wales paceman. Unfortunatly it was not to be Kumble's day as he spooned a catch to Michael Hussey at square leg trying to hook the ball down to fine leg.

Harbhajan Follows Suit - India 8/133

Indian off spinner Harbhajan Singh followed in the same manner as his leg spinning partner Anil Kumble as he too was dismissed by right arm quick Brett Lee to leave India in further trouble at 8/133.

Singh was dismissed for only 2 as the tourists fell deeper into trouble curtousy of a brutal opening spell of bowling from the right arm paceman on the first session of play on the 4th day.

Singh was caught at a wide 3rd slip position by Justin Langer as the off spinner attempted to play forward to a ball that moved slightly off the seam on the seamer friendly GABBA wicket.
