Ajit Agarkar claimed his 4th wicket as Australia slipped further to be 8/265 early on day 3 of the 1st test.
Brett Lee was the next batsman to go, caught in the slips from a wonderful delivery from Agarkar. Anil Kumble took the catch at second slip as Australia slipped into real trouble.
Agarkar bringing back memories of Adelaide 2004! This match is well poised. Ganguly's fantastic 50 with the tail in company might well make the difference here!
Captain Finally Dismissed For Gritty Century - Australia 9/280
Australia lost their captain after one of the bravest centuries seen in the country in many years. Australia needed all of Ricky Pontings heart and skill to rescue them to a position where they are still in contact with the Indians at 9/280, still a long way behind the 328 set by the tourist in the first innings.
Ponting was eventually caught in the deep by Sourav Ganguly off the bowling of Ajit Agarkar, but not before carving out a memorable 127. It was a typical fighting captains knock in which Ponting batted for almost 100 overs and facing 249 balls.
Ajit Agarkar picked up outstanding figures of 6/51 of 27.1 overs to crush Australia for 10/280 to give his side a crucial lead of 48 runs leading into the second half of the 1st 3 test series in Brisbane.
Glenn McGrath was the last of the Aussie batsman to go, caught by Zaheer Khan without troubling the scorers as Australia sit firmly behind the 8 ball just after lunch on the 3rd day of play.
Australia will now rely heavily on the pace quartet of McGrath, Lee, Bracken and Watson, along with the best spinner in the world, Shane Warne, to ensure that their batsman have a total they are able to chase in the hope of going 1-0 up in the series.
