Michael Hussey failed to make the most of a positive start in his debut innings in the baggy green when he was adjudged LBW for 20 from the bowling of Anil Kumble as Australia slipped further into trouble at 4/84.
Hussey appeared confident after taking to the crease and managed to work the ball around well with captain Ricky Ponting as Australia look to get close to the Indian score of 10/328. After reviewing the decision it appears that the Western Australian has little to complain about being hit directly in line with off stump to a ball that was struggling to turn.
Now enter Adam Gilchrist as Captain elect and his deputy look to make some ground on 328 which is starting to look further and further away with every wicket.
Australian captain Ricky Ponting brought up a crucial half century to lead Australia to 4/121 as Australia find themselves still sitting squarely behind the 8 ball against India in Brisbane.
Ponting produced an uncharacteristically slow and cautious half century from 109 balls as he looks to lead his team within reach of the 328 set in the Indians first innings.
Ajit Agarkar picked up the crucial wicket of one of the worlds best batsman as he took the wicket of Adam Gilchrist to leave Australia in further danger at 5/161.
Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthick took one of the contenders for catch of the season with a marvelous dive to dismiss the Australia dangerman, just has he was showing ominous signs as his score moved to 39.
Ricky Ponting will now shoulder the huge task of edging Australia ever closer to the 328 set by India in the first innings.
