Ponting Carves Out Brave Century - Australia 5/238
Australian captain Ricky Ponting carved out one of his greatest and most important centuries as he dug his country out of a huge whole to be 5/238 on day 3 of the first test in Brisbane.
Ponting brought up a cautious century from 207 balls to put Australia back in the game after being in constant trouble with all of the top 5 unable to make it past 30.
The Australian team have appeared unsure of how to play the Indians on a seemers GABBA wicket but Ponting has shown that heart and courage are enough to survive and flourish in the difficult conditions.
Harbhajan Singh claimed the crucial wicket of Australian allrounder Shane Watson to devistate the young queeslander and put Australia in a delicate position at 6/248.
Watson showed early signs that he could match it with the big boys in the test arena with a fighting 44 to assist captain Ricky Ponting in reaching 6/248 to get Australia closer to the 328 set by India in the first innings.
Watson appeared on track for a certain half century before he was adjudged LBW playing forward against the off spin of Singh. The bat no where near the ball which hit the front pad in line with off stump.
Captain Ricky Ponting (106*) will now have to bat with the tail in an attempt to get Australia past the 300 point.
Harbhajan Singh took his second wicket in 2 overs to reduce Australia to 7/254 as Shane Warne departed for 1. Singh took first rights in the spin vs spin battle as Warne got a fine edge on a straight ball from Singh.
Dinesh Karthik took a simple wicketkeepers catch as Warne looked to cut the ball off the back foot.
