Pakistan openers Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt completed their first task of surviving the initial 10 overs as Pakistan reached 0/42. Both players are unbeaten on 20 runs and now must increase the run rate if they are to give themselves any hope of winning this crucial clash.

Currently only scoring at 4.2 per over, they find themselves needing to directly copy India, requiring a run rate of 7.3 runs per over. Salman Butt is the bright point for Pakistan, with 48 not out from 50 balls.
The Indian bowling stocks have slightly tightened the screws on the Pakistan top order as the tourists lost 2 wickets to be 2/145 at the 30 over point. Salman Butt looked in hot form with 70 from 78 balls while Shahid Afridi finally found some runs with 52. However Pakistan now have to score at almost 8 runs per over to win the match, a figure that is growing larger with each over that passes. Pakistan now looking down the barrell of defeat and an early exit from the VB series.
Pakistan must produce one of the great run chases if they are to give themselves any hope of qualifying for the VB series finals. The Pakistan lower order requires a near impossible 100 runs to win from 10 overs to claim the 2nd last match of the series. Younis Khan appears to hold the key for Pakistan with 29 not out, while young paceman Sreesanth claiming 3/42 to crush Pakistani hopes of victory.
