To those of you who use AVG Free Antivirus, I've noticed that v8 has got mixed reviews across the net, is it as good as or better than 7.5 and if not, is it safe to stick with 7.5? I've heard that v8 only has the email scanner for 30 days, was that also the case with v7.5?

Here's a quote from www.download.com about the email scanner:

Cons: While it's true the "email scanner" is now only in the paid version, what people don't really realize is ANTI-VIRUS EMAIL SCANNERS ARE USELESS and any professional will tell you the same. Since most people connect to a server like their Yahoo! or AOL email accounts, they are ALREADY virus scanned before you open them!

Is this accurate?

AVG is crap go with Avast! (If you want FREE version)

I have 8.0, its not bad but tbh its a huge memory hog. I've turned off the main program now, so all that are running are the scanners in the background, and they are idling on 49,000k and 56,000k respectively. The old 7.5 idled around 19,000k, which has convinced me to get rid of this new version until they tone it down a bit. When everything is switched on, all scanners and the main module, it adds up to a huge 345,000k, which is the equivalent of running a game like Unreal Tournament 2004 or Company of Heroes.

Hence why I'm getting rid.

But is it ok to stick with v7.5 (at least for now), as long as it's updated regularly, obv.

AVG Free only gives protection from viruses. Avast! Home Edition (Free) gives protection from viruses, web shield, anti-spam and the new 4.8 version also has anti-rootkit

AVG 8.100 has a website scanner, has an anti-spyware system and more...

I recommend AVG 8.100 to everyone.
