Challengers XI record 5th successive league win

Rod Bishop makes spectacular return to form

Challengers XI vs wicket wizards

The pitch was looking uneven, so we won the toss and decided to have a bowl. we managed to restrict them to 221, once again bowling them all out. Rod Bishop marked the end of a slump in form with a brilliant 4-45, whilst Ledley Marples chipped in with 2-36. The other bowlers took a wicket each.

The 2nd innings began with a decent 93 run opening stand between Rowland and Perry, even if they weren't going at the required rate. When Perry fell to Saayman, Rowland was snatched up 9 runs later. Bishop and Cooper then put on a decent 68 run partnership, before Cooper finally fell. Graeme Filan continued another good run of form by getting to 21 unbeaten, whilst those down the order made a good contribution, the most notable score being Croft with 12.

So this match places Challengers XI clearly in 2nd place of V.31.

Battrick Banker

Weeks profit/loss: ?7,265

The sponsors money continues to pour in with our 5th successive league win, and the amount of club members has risen again with 624 now members. Only a couple of players were bought this week, each for ?1000 but the selling of the youth pull Pete Hay for ?8,000 soon balanced that out.

Von hoesslin impresses on debut

The captain and new boy van Hoesslin, transfer from Spinners United, put on a 41 run stand to try and win the match. However, Challengers XI were outclassed in every department. Check back for Nets tomorrow.

Training Update

A very disappointing training session for Challengers XI. Not one player managed to pop. There were a few increases of BTR around, but thats no compensation. :(

Hoping for a better one next week.

1. Graeme Filan
2. Lucas Perry
3. David Cooper
4. Rod Bishop
5. Rhys Rowland
6. Calum Von hoesslin
7. Tim Croft
8. Roger Oakley
9. Ledley Marples
10. Carl Milner
11. Lawrence Cronin

Subs

Batsmen:
Scott Edgerley-harris

Allrounders:
Samuel Haywzelden
Mohammed Islam

Bowlers:
Ken Long
Jarvis Barnes
Shah Tahir
Liam Campbell

WK Batsmen:
Al Doughty

Managers note: Challengers XI needs more batsmen who can hold up the order. All of these bowlers will have to go and will be on sale. Doughty has been on sale for quite a while, but if no more clubs show interest and his BTR drops below 2000, he will have to go. So more batsmen needed.

After deciding Challengers XI needed some competent batsmen, I decided to go for loads. I bid for 6 this morning, so far 2 of them I lost, and one has come through.

There is 1 I will certainly get, and 1 more that I'll probably get, and another that I could get.

So, here is the new arrival, he will be wearing the No.20 shirt:

20. Grady Ireland (369309)
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, strong batting form, strong bowling form, sublime
A destructive player with feeble leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Plays For: Challengers XI
Nationality: England
Age: 23 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 2,516
Wages: ?427 p/w

Managers notes: Grady will certainly be challenging for a regular first team place with some much needed batting skill. Hopefully he will be the one to hold up the middle order, I am going to trial him at no.3 and put him on Attacking, due to his Destructive nature he could be a match winner...

Challengers XI vs Camlann

Probable lineup:

Code:
Name Bowler
1. Graeme Filan
2. Rhys Rowland
3. Grady Ireland
4. Rod Bishop 1
5. Lucas Perry
6. David Cooper
7. Calum Von hoesslin 5
8. Roger Oakley 2
9. Ledley Marples 3
10. Carl Milner (*)(+)
11. Jarvis Barnes 4

This is going to be a very interesting match, with both teams fairly evenly matched, at least in BTR. If Camlann win this, they can catch up with 2nd placed Challengers XI, if the latter team win then they have a pretty good chance of keeping 2nd place. This is one of the most important fixtures on the OD League list for us, second only to the game vs. Wackers Delight.

I have gone and bought two more batsmen to strengthen my squad. Well, only one will actually be playing, the other needs a helluva lota training:

LH Batsman, LM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with worthless leadership skills and feeble experience.

Plays For: Challengers XI
Nationality: England
Age: 27 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 4,785
Wages: ?511 p/w
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: woeful
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: woeful
Fielding: competent

Luke will be holding up the lower-middle order, coming in at about 5/6. I am going to try and fit him in todays game to trial him.

Qaiser Taj (436504)
LH Batsman, LF Bowler, woeful batting form, competent bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with competent leadership skills and worthless experience.

Plays For: Challengers XI
Nationality: Pakistan
Age: 17 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 1,442
Wages: ?422 p/w
Stamina: worthless Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: competent Concentration: worthless
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: woeful

Manager said:
Qaiser is a hot prospect for the future. I will train him in batting and fielding to improve those secondaries. This player could be very dangerous in the future.

Manager furious at team's poor form

4th straight loss prompts manager to scream at team

News has leaked that manager Miles Bryant is very unhappy with the Challengers XI after they lost another game vs a strong team.
"At least put up a fight!"

He was particularly unimpressed with Grady Ireland, the clubs recently aquired 23 year old batsman.

"He has failed again. Last week he got a golden duck against a team that was of similar skill to us. The only other players to get a ducks today were tailenders."

However, Miles Bryant commended another recent aquistion, Luke Watkins:

"He was one of the few players that attacked the bowling. Had earlier batsmen not failed, he could have got a decent knock."
