Best Commentator

One of rameez raja-
It's the last ball of the over,Dravid takes a single.
rameez raja: "It's good that Dravid has taken a single & given the strike to Dhoni"

Dosen't he know that if a batsman takes a single of the last ball he retains strike.

What a fool.

shahid6995 ,now don't think that I'm against Pakistan.
I'm talking about rameez as an individual.

It is possible, I believe, that the commentator has not been counting the number of balls that has passed in the over. That is the job of the umpires and the statisticians. Besides, DD probably cut him off before he could correct himself. Now what is stupid is when Ramiz Raja screamed out "that's edged, gone" for Tendulkar, with Razzaq bowling, when Razzaq didn't even appeal and the keeper and slips appealed about 3-5 seconds after the ball past the bat. Almost as an afterthought. And then he said, "I thought that was out. Well looks like he is not out." Well obviously, the umpire said not out, didn't he?

C9 has the best commentators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :boxing

How can you warrant what you've just said.
What warrents it is most of my life listening to these losers.go back fifteen years and they are saying the same things.pathetic :mad

For some reason i like Tony Greig, he's quite popular and has been here for 20 odd years. Boycott used to be really good, Lawry (not sure with his spelling), Holding, D.Jones and few others.

I don't like Dean Jones that much. Well that's a lie. I don't mind listening to what he says but I don't agree with him most of the time. But what's good is he adds his own opinion to the scheme of things and analyses it. What ****es me off is commentators who simply dictate what happens. "The bowler is running down here and he has bowled a ball outside off-stump. The batsmen has cut it down third man and taken a single." Oh wow, how fascinating.

To be frank, C9's commentators come across as a bunch of ar**holes, and the commentators in the india-pak series keep using the same old phrases which annoys the hell out of me.

Best commentrator by far is Harsha Bhogle.....Its a pity that we only get to hear him in Australia when Indians tour here, but he is just a delight listenning to. He makes you feel like you are there watching the game just by listening to the radio........and I can say that few of the Aussies I play cricket with also love hearing him speak on the radio.
His pairing with Kerry O'Keffe is the best commentary patnership I have heard.....O' Keffe is just superb as well......

I agree. They are brilliant.I love listening to them.

Harsha Bhogle is good because he is not one of those ex-player converts into the commentary game. He is extremely knowledgeable in cricket and commentary and analysis is really his passion. Apart from that he is really polite and speaks well, so you don't really get ****ed off at his comments.

I think the best asian commentators are Rameez Raja, Sanjay Manjrekar, Ravi Shastri and pitch repoortttt with Arun Lal :):):)

English commentators are Robin Jackman and Ian Healey, the way these commentated in the Samsung Series really was enjoyable.

Ian Healy wouldn't like being referred to as English! And you could include Jackman in your Asian list if you were being pedantic, he is Indian by birth.

Some of the worst commentry I have heard was the live feed for the recent Ind-Pak series on cricinfo. Those 3/4 commentrators were absolutely terrible......You have to have the live scoreboard opened as well, 'cause most of the time u had no idea what the hell they were talking about!!!!
I don't know how many people subscribed to it, but I won't subscribe to it if the same commentrators are on again!!!

I hope you don't mind my reviving this old thread.

However, here are my list among current commentators:

Best 5:

1. Ravi Shastri: quite sensible and to the point. Tells it as it is.

2. Nasser Hussein: Currently on DD National for the Ind-Eng series and is surprisingly good. Sauve, soft-spoken and makes a lot of sense.

3. Robin Jackman: Always light-hearted and is a pleasure to listen to. I wish he would do more commentary...

4. Dean Jones: Brings in some much needed humour. His commentary was one of the highs of the India-Pak series.

5. Waqar Younis: Surprisingly he is in my top 5? Why? His diction may be a bit poor, but he speaks much better than Rameez Raja and his knowledge of the game is also better than Raja. His reaction when Pakistan were about to lose the match to India in the final ODI at Karachi was just amusing! Takes Pakistani defeat much better than Rameez.

I know I have left out some big names, but many of the top commentators of yesteryears are now inactive or I just don't get an opportunity to listen to them in the last few years.

Worst commentators in no particular order:

1. Most commentators on Channel 9 (AUS). Very biased, extremely one-dimensional and boring. Except one or two I detest the lot.

2. All the Doordarshan "specials": Charu Sharma, Krish Srikkanth and company. Nuff said.

3. All New Zealand commentators. Biased, one-dimensional and even worse than Channel 9 commentary team. One word: BORING.

4. Navjot Sidhu. Amusing initially, but began grating on our nerves long before he thankfully disappeared from the scene.

5. Sunil Gavaskar. His "bi.casssu the battu is just-a not coming down straaight. He needs to bring his left elbow strai-ghtu".

6. Sanjay Manjrekar: Improving these days, but still needs work.

7. Ranjit Fernando and most Sri Lankan commentators. Biased, very biased and very nasal.

8. Harsha Bhogle: Thinks he's a pretty smart dude and hence tends to act oversmart sometimes. Irritating at the best of times with his exaggerated phrases and his pretence at being neutral.

9. Ian Botham: Sometimes very biased and makes pretty critical remarks. Otherwise OK.

10. Rameez Raja: I added him here because he's not improved one bit since the time he came on the scene. One-dimensional and Pakistan centric. Very tiring in combination with Sanjay and co. on Ten Sports although any day better than some of the others I mentioned.

11. Other miscellaneous non-regulars who appear and disappear from the scene at rapid intervals...
