In overall terms , i would be content with the Proteas . But given their under performance in major tournaments coupled with how bad they bowled here in the SC 12 months back , i have no other choice but to go for Australia. It could have been an easy Australian victory had the likes of Harris , Mckay all made themselves available for selection . TBH i wouldn't even consider having England in the nominees especially when it comes to the SC conditions .

Based on the current scenario, it has to be South Africa. All three of them i.e Steyn, Morkel and Tsotsobe are in exceptional form at the moment.

Guys don't get befooled by their performance in overcast South African conditions !! We very well know how they bowled in the 2-1 series defeat to India 12 months back . The scores for India then read 298 , 400 , 271 .

Australia And Pakistan Is Has THe Best Bowling Pace Attack For me

In flat wickets of the subcontinent, the best way to unsettle the batsman is by raw pace and Pakistan look to be the ideal for the job. On top of that, they will be playing in conditions quite familiar to them which gives them an added advantage. Consistency will be an issue with Akhtar, whose mercuric bowling may cost Pakistan dear, but over and above, going by strength of the attack, the raw diamonds that Pakistan possess are enviable. I wish Akhtar were at his best so that we could savour more of his brute deliveries.

sri lanka's attack is better than englands in SC conditions.

kulasekara is a better ODI swing bowler than anderson in SC conditions, bowls a shorter length but the lack of bounce still keeps the LBW in play. Anderson pitches it up and without the bounce that results in too many half-volleys.

Broad is a good ODI bowler though, but Malinga's record at the death means he's not exactly lagging behing broad.

Fernando probably won't be picked much along with those 2, sri lanka relying on mathews and perera to round off their pace attack but if fernando did play he's pretty good compared to an untested shazad.

I can't decide which is the best of the other three but they're all comfortably better than the rest. I'd probably give australia the edge.

Well to me no team in this Worldcup has the perfect pace bowling resources. Australia is little ahead from Pakistan, Srilanka, England due to addition of Lee but we must keep in mind that just pace will not work alone on SC pitches since instead of making game harder for batsmen it will ease their batting as they can easily score boundaries. Tait is very good in T20s but I doubt he will be able to play even two ODIs on the trot since SC conditions will be little harder for him. Same is the case for Shoaib Akhtar who will I guess suffer as an opening bowler but he will be good with old reverse swinging ball.

Pakistan still lack one pace bowler in their lineup since Sohail Tanvir is of no good and no one can expect Shoaib Akhtar to play the whole worldcup. If they had Amir in this lineup this attack would have been the best pace attack of this WC.
Srilanka and England both have destructive bowlers plus they also have the ability to reverse the ball and can bowl lethal yorkers. England should use Tremlett as his height will help him.

SA has a very good pace attack but they lack bowlers who can reverse the ball plus all their bowlers are too young in ODIs. Steyn and Morkel are not best when it come to bowl in SC conditions.

India is not far behind the others when it come to bowl in their home conditions. Zaheer Khan will surely trouble many batsmen.

So summary is that
Pace Bowling Ranking(my opinion)
Australia - 80
Pakistan - 75
Srilanka - 75
England - 70
South Africa - 65
India - 65(in home conditions)

the worry with australia's is that pace attack is made of guys that can go over 70 runs one day, and then take 4 wickets for 30 the next.

but if you include the part time options shane watson is a beast of a second change which puts australia ahead.

Australia for sure, everything is falling in place for them at right time, just before world cup. Brett lee is back and is bowling brilliantly and Australia seem to step up when it comes to World cup. So Tait-Lee-Johnson attack looks really strong.

Going purely by the poll results - it seems to be Pak.

Discussion-wise, I agree it's Pak and Aus - all 6 of Akhtar, Lee, Gul, Tait, Riaz and Johnson can bowl above 145 kmph's. While they may go for a few, the best way to beat the batsman in SC is with pace

There should be another thread named 'Best spin bowling attack'.

Have Akthar and Lee really been bowling that well recently?

I saw Lee a little bit in the T20 and bits and pieces of the first couple of ODIs, and he seemed alright. Not spectacular tho. Haven't seen Akthar bowl.

Because without them, I don't think the Pak and RSA attacks are all they're hyped up to be. Pak's is ofcourse quite good nevertheless -Gul, Riaz, Razzaq, Tanvir (even though he's been rubbish recently)- and have experience in the SC. Aus's is unreliable. Johnson and Tait can really spray it around, Hastings and Watto are decent.

But RSA's does seem better. The trio of Steyn/Morkel/Tsotsobe could work brilliantly. Although angryangy did bring up a good point about their lack of depth.

As for Steyn's effectiveness in ODIs, he's been decent career-wise, but over the last 12 months his economy has been 5.07 (lower than his career value of 5.22) and SR 36.4 (career 34). It's alright you can say, won't take the world apart, but the raw skills are there. No batsman can say they would enjoy facing Steyn in ODIs at the moment.
