The only good thing to come out of the Big Bash is more youngsters have been given a go than what would have been the case with the original Big Bash.

I agree, although I would probably rather see better quality of cricket with just the six state sides. Oh well, this tournament is still far better than the IPL thats for sure.

What happened to McCullum and Vettori playing for Brisbane? Both of them are fit atm, so are they just not being picked? (Btw I'm going by cricinfo's teams, I'm not watching the telecast atm)

Yeah, but they were going to play for both teams, by going back and forward every few days.

From what I gathered McCullum was only there for the first few games, van der Merwe was his replacement.

They were both originally going to play in as many games as they could, which is why I found it strange that neither of them had played in their last game and this game.

On their website it says that they're both "unavailable" for this round:

You're right on van der Merwe, although McCullum is set to return later:

I thought Vettori was out injured, isn't that why he missed the 2nd Test v AUS? I assumed VDM was Vettori's replacement, similar players.

Vettoris fit now though he played for Northern Districts just a few days ago. They need them back quickly that Heat lineup is looking extremely thin without them.

Where was van der merwe for todays game??

Got this news from Facebook.

van der Merwe has been suspended from the Brisbane Heat for one match in Australia's Big Bash League after failing a roadside alcohol breath test early on New Year's Day, the day after his 27th birthday.

The Purple Army Hurricanes Will Win This

Vettori got a bit slapped last night, at least the Heat finally got on the board though. He (Dan) played a T20 game on each of the 4th, 5th, and 6th.

I can't remember seeing an Aussie taking apart Vettori like that. The Gabba pitch was seriously flat going by the ease by which they were hitting 6s.

Very good match. Shah showed how you bat in T20s. He kept his head, played good, proper cricket shots and tried to score off every ball.

Too many blokes have no idea how to play the game, especially now the bowlers have increased their skill set.

If we had the original state teams we would be having a very high quality tournament, instead of something that resembles grade cricket half the time.

If we had original state teams, here's what they would look like with the players available at the moment

.

I llike your idea but I also like the idea of the franchises to allow players to move from team to team, so my solution is keep the franchises but just one per state so the fans and players arent stretched.
