Ashwin's retirement and the BCCI secretary's post being vacant are things that have happened simultaneously. Will Ash Anna step into the shoes of Jay Bhai now? If that happens, the Chepauk will likely host the ICC WT20 2026 Finals.

Have a great retired like Ash anna! 3 more remain and post that goes my cricket watching ability completely. I am sure if India do not make the WTC which is highly possible Rohit and Virat will retire., probably Jadeja as well.

Rohit could also completely retire after the Champions Trophy. 2025 is gonna be the year and as a fan in me who started watching since 1999, that is a solid 26 year run.

Rohit mentioned that he came to know of the decision in Perth itself and that Ash was convinced to play the pink ball test.

The timing of the retirement, now comes into focus. If you've made up your mind around about the 1st test, the following questions arise:

1. Why go to Australia at all?
2. Why announce mid-way?
3. Might as well play the Sydney test which has traditionally favoured spinners.

But we do have Jadeja and Sundar.

Yes, we do! But if the decision was made prior to landing in Perth, could have saved everyone the hassle and retired right after the New Zealand series.
Like us as fans knew the beating was coming and we were not going to threepeat winning BGT in Australia this time around but the management might have told him, wait out and see what happens.

Ashwin retired after just one home series loss. Really honourable decision, he could have played for a couple more years. Rare to see such selflessness in South Asia.

He was also almost 39. Right time from my perspective however could have waited till end of series.

As mentioned below, agree that age had caught on to him. He's had a fabulous career so far, did feel he was under utilized in the CWC 2023 and should have played the Finals. Anyway, the time was ripe as Washington had risen to the occasion and did well in his limited outings for India. As I've mentioned previously, he could have either announced before the start of the series OR after the series ended.

Can we fly Bhuvi in as Ashwin's replacement or in case someone has an 'injury'?

We can have a top 7 comprising of KL, Bhuvi, Nitish, Jadeja, Akashdeep, Washington and Bumrah...

So Konstas who scored a century in the practice match is in the side. Harsh for McSweeney. Hopefully he makes a comeback soon.

Jhye Richardson is in the squad. The Aussies might want to play him ahead of Boland just as a surprise factor given that not many Indian players have seen much of him and India's record against new bowlers is absolutely dismal.
