Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

Oh my dear lord. Praveen out of test series. I was so excited to see him down under. Replacement has to be RP Singh or Sreesanth. No Mithun please.

Did you even see him bowl in England???He doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the Indian Team.

do u follow Indian Cricket ? he was not playing any cricket during that time and selector just called him for last test. he is right now playing ranji cricket and picking wickets.

He was the guy who help us to win 2008 Perth Test Against Aus.

He has taken 6 wickets at close to 60 in 3 matches so far and he has hardly touched 130Kmph this season and 2008 was a long time back.He was brilliant in England in 2007 but we know how 2011 turned out.

so tell which bowler u want in place of praveen.

1. sreesanth (currently injured and has not played last 2-3 ranji match)
2. Irfan (who bowls under 130 and for test match he is not ready.)

so is there anyone else i can know.. don't tell me mithun as he even struggles to find place in RCB.

I think PK out of the test series might prove to be a blessing in disguise of us. I have all respect for his ability to move the ball but on a hot and dry day in Australia, the movement may not last for long. Also, IF Zak is fully fit and ready for the tests, we should have a good-looking pace attack after a while. Aaron and Yadav as the outright quicks, even Ishant touching the mid 140s these days and the reliable hand of Zaheer Khan and this time we would have spinners who are genuinely skillful in Ashwin and Ojha. With both Zaheer and PK in the same attack, we would have had two swing bowlers (although Zaheer can crank it up to the 140 mark when on rhythm) in the side. Now, I think our first choice attack would be Zaheer, Ishant and Yadav along with Ashwin. I would gamble on Sreesanth as the replacement for PK for the X-factor.

I think Irfan Pathan would be a better gamble.Either way the 5th seamer will in all probability just be a tourist if Zak is fit.

I just feel it's the final nail in the coffin for Copeland with India's Praveen ruled out. Isn't it, Syl? :p

For me, the pacers would be Zaheer, Ishant and Yadav. I wish Praveen's injury extends into the Aussie tour :P No offence, but I want to see either of Yadav or Aaron play most of the tests.

Looks like God answered my prayers. YAAY, Praveen Kumar is out of the Australia tests.:cheers Feel sorry for Praveen, but I just dont have hopes on him with the kind of speed he possesses.

Agreed. I would pick Sreesanth too as the replacement for PK. No Munaf, no RP Singh.

RP Singh is a waste of time. He is again one of those players who is good enough in domestic cricket but just not there for intl cricket. I have more faith in Sreesanth than RP Singh.

Sreesanth is injured thats why i said R.P Singh. :yes

I dont know why but I feel it will be either Irfan Pathan or Vinay Kumar. Irfan has a better chance he has 48 runs in 3 innings & 14 wickets in 3 FC games so far

LOL @ people cheering PK's injury. There is this obsession with pace. He's not fast. I think that was established on his debut itself. To have come this far with no pace is a testament to his skill. He can succeed without pace. He is more accurate on his worst days than Ishant on his best. He can swing the ball either way and as he showed in West Indies, he can do it with the older ball too. He is India's best bet for a third seamer.

Pace and accuracy is what we need. We dont want just accuracy with very little pace. When you are not accurate, you will be smashed. And Praveen's accuracy was more in domestic cricket where the quality of batting is nowhere close to intl cricket. In international cricket, he is just one series old, so I dont know what accuracy you have seen of him in intl cricket. Also in ODI's with batsmen being forced to score quickly, Praveen can be more effective, but in tests, eventually his pace will fail him. He was going to succeed in conditions like England where the ball swings a lot. But not in conditions like Australia where pace and bounce is more important.

And after having lived with such military medium bowlers for decades now, we seriously are craving for some genuinely quick fast bowlers. We need at least 2-3 of such genuine fast bowlers in the team, and if you want to build them, throw them into such challenging tours like this one against Australia, etc.

Yes, but it was a good series and to me that's way better than what Yadav and Aaron have done. Praveen was the only bowler preventing the England series from being a complete embarrasment because at least the batsmen couldn't get away against him. Every other Indian bowler in that series was 3.5 RPO or higher and leaking boundaries. I think he deserved to keep being picked until oppositions could PROVE that he could be taken apart. Mostly it's just guessing, 'oh he's not fast enough, he won't last' but there's been a lot of good bowlers who haven't hit 140kph.

He could have been valuable in Australia because now the holding role will be Ashwin/Ohja's and if the Aussies go after them, then there won't be anyone to fall back on with good control.
