Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

I don't really watch first class cricket... I had a look at Hilfenhaus's last first class game. Against NSW he got 74 for 2 in the first innings and 50 for 1 in the second innings. Steven Smith being the only decent batsman. If he can't get NSW out then he can't get India out. Please don't pick hilfy. Just looking at stats and nothing else, Peter George is getting a lot of top order batsman out, which is what we want.

It ended up being last man standing and not wanting to take a punt on Starc. George has shown glimpses but his average this season ain't much to write home about and he seems have an innings where he leaks runs. Cutting copped his injury at the wrong time as he would have taken Starc place otherwise.

I wouldn't have minded seeing Faulkner being picked ahead of Starc earlier. Other than that unless we punted on Hazlewood there really wasn't any choices left.

So they replace

Hughes (23) with Cowan (29)
Khawaja (25) with Marsh (28) and
Starc (21) with Hilfenhaus (28)

I wonder when they will start sticking with the younger generations

Can someone tell me about the weather prevailing in Melborne?

It's actually been hailing in Melbourne, but I wouldn't be too worried about the weather. Strong westerly winds mean it's just business as usual; nothing too consistent. Overall it should stay warm and maybe get quite humid.

It was never going to be green, but there is grass on it and it looks evenly covered. Last year's pitch offered something without ever looking green. The main point of interest is the pace and carry. The MCG can skid through quite well when it wants to and combined with the weather, it might suit the swing bowlers at some point.

Prediction: Overall it's going to be a draw at 1-1

1st Test: Either India will smash Australia or Australia will smash india.
2nd Test: Draw
3rd Test: A very close victory or loss for either side.

Its a 4-test series.

Might as well give one of my own then:

MCG - all 3 outcomes possible.
Adelaide - draw
Perth - Australia
SCG - India

P.S: Take the MCG test, take the Border Gavaskar trophy home...
