Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

Quite funny how India were going to fly to Melbourne early because rain might ruin their warm up but they were happy to end the game a session early.

Signs are good for Marsh so far. Did a press conference on Fox Sports and he's pretty positive about making the 1st test. Looked good in the nets apparently and will be playing T20 tonight.

Hopefully Marsh is fit and the decision on who to perhaps drop for Christian becomes between Ponting and Hussey.

Dropping Marsh would be a silly step backwards.

Inverarity did say it's between Marsh and Christian for the final spot. If Marsh is fit then he will play but Christian will take his place if he isn't.

''It means one of the batsmen would miss if Dan comes in,'' Clarke said. ''Again, we're waiting on the fitness of Shaun as well; that's going to play a big part. If everybody is fit we will work out if the all-rounder is the best option. If it is, then a batter will have to miss, because I see Dan as a No. 6 batter who can do that bowling for us as well.''

That's what I was talking about before. Could just be the usual talk of wanting an all rounder and not going through with it like last test.

I don't understand this, they are in australia, it's 4 days before the test, if someone isn't fit surely you just call up another batsman if that's what you want to play? it seems silly to think "we need 6 batsmen" presumably because the batting has been brittle and can't afford to carry anyone, but if one of them gets injured they are prepared to completely change the balance of the team by bringing in an all-rounder instead?

wouldn't it make sense to bring khawaja back in on stand by? if haddin got injured would they would bring in a new wicket keeper, so why not bring in a batsman to replace an injured batsman? or is it that these 6 batsmen are the only 6 they see as potential internationals and if one of the 6 can't make it there is just no point bringing in someone else.

but if one of them gets injured they are prepared to completely change the balance of the team by bringing in an all-rounder instead?

Christian was close to playing last test but they gave the old timers another chance. The 'experts' have been calling for his inclusion for a while so he must be at least half decent.

I guess it could be a toss up between Ishant and Ojha for MCG. If the wicket is not too hard and bouncy, I feel we might play 2 seamers + 2 spinners with Ishant being rested for later tests. Zaheer and Yadav with Ashwin and Ojha being the bowlers.

The latest Cricinfo article is quite soothing. Suggests that both Zak and Ishant are fit and raring to go. If so, a line up of Zak, Ishant, Yadav and Ashwin looks quite strong. I reckon if the Indian bowlers are fit, the Indian bowling is at least as good as the current Aussie one.

So just 2 days left and we will begin this much awaited series. Wish India would have done a bit better in England.

Leaving the past, Best Of Luck Team India and I am sure you will not repeat the mistakes you made last time
