Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

Hope Christian makes the XI man cut now. MCG and SCG demand such players in the XI. It worked for England with Bresnan in the Ashes down under.

Personally I'd go with

Warner
Cowan
Marsh
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Christian
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon

MCG England side

Strauss
Cook
Trott
Pietersen
Collingwood
Bell
Prior
Bresnan
Swann
Anderson
Tremlett

Umm I'm not sure what comparison you are trying to draw with the bolded statement my friend.

What type of player does MCG & SCG demand and what makes Christian that player?

Bresnan of Ashes 2010/11 is far superior to Christian currently and ENG in last Ashes MCG test did not weaken its top 6 to accommodate Bresnan @ 7 either. So i'm not sure what you are trying to imply here.

Batting Christian @ 8? He's more a 5/6 player.

Christian's bowling is no where near up to standard to get a bowling spot. At least McDonald was tight with his bowling. Will reserve judgement on his batting but his FC average of 30 does not fill anyone will confidence and half a season of form isn't enough to change it for me.

My bad, presumed him to be a bowling all rounder. Just had a look at his FC stats for this season where he's made 475 runs at 59 with the bat and taken 10 wickets at 50 with the ball.

batting looks a lot better, shame about watson but the line up picks itself without him.

bowling not as good looking. hilfenhaus isn't going to get the bounce to bother indian batsmen and lyon will get smoked on australian pitches by india, that's a lot of pressure on pattinson and siddle. christian can't seriously be in the mix.

course india have major selection headaches with their bowling. ishant and zaheer looks like a extreme gamble with their fitness.

Ishant might be a gamble, but what has Zaheer done so far in the practice game to suggest that his fitness is a gamble? He has now gone through 3 consecutive domestic games without any issues (both the Ranji games he played and the practice game here).

Theres no way Christian should be playing, tbf I haven't seen a lot of him lately but there is no way his bowling is up to test standard. I don't really understand why its so important to have an all rounder anyway, you are better off having a specialist batsman or bowler rather than a guy like Christian who'll do average at both. Pretty surprised hes getting picked in the squad tbh.

I think all of us are surprised about Christian, except maybe Haarithan, but if I criticise him enough and he makes the XI, he's sure to do well.

Hoping to see - Warner, Cowan, Marsh, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, Haddin, Siddle, Hilfenhaus, Pattinson, Lyon.

Would rather Khawaja covering for Marsh, but obviously Christian will be there if Marsh isn't. Only real question mark is Hilfy/Starc, flip of a coin between those two.

I did say I wrongly presumed him to be a bowling AR initially, didn't I?

Basically I was looking for someone who'd average 25-30 with the bat and 25-30 with the ball in FC to slot in at #8, and wrongly presumed Christian was perhaps that sort of a player without even bothering to have a look at his stats.

Didn't mean to offend man. He's a decent player, but his recent selections have kinda come out of the blue.

James Faulkner is the name you are looking for then.

Faulkner's stats look pretty amazing tbh (30 with the bat and 24 with the ball). Just the kind of player I'd have in any Test playing XI. So is it his pace that's undone him from making even the Chairman's XI?

@Sedition: lol, none taken man. All's good.

Also a leftie which the selectors seem to love.
His pace is fine looks to be fine going by his BBL speeds. The Chairman's XI wasn't picked on form, it was picked on who wasn't playing in the BBL. The side that was sent out would have some players lucky to make a 5th 11 Australian side.

Australia needs Allrounder incase one of the bowlers fail to penetrate like Starc did against NZ. So instead Hussey gets bowls. Better off with Christian than Hussey
