Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

:noway

I hope he's fit enough to play tomorrow. Oz have been struggling with the bat and signs of poor form a midst the line-up was clearly noticeable in the first innings. Ed played well and if it's anything serious... welp!

Interesting how we keeping copping these back injuries. First Marsh then Warner and now Cowan.

Talking about Marsh's back injury...I recall reading his statement in a newspaper that while in SouthAfrica....he had such a troublesome backpain, one morning he couldnt get out of bed :D and Hussey & co. lifted him & took him to toilet :p

Oh man. Sachin's innings was class ! People go on about how Indians worship him, and he's overrated etc, but innings like the one he played today just show why he's so much of a crowd puller. He played like a boss.

Quite frankly, Sehwag was lucky to get to 67. Verrry iffy innings, more so than a typical Sehwag one. India will be hoping to put on 400 on this pitch. Ishant is probably going to get cleaned up early tomorrow, and then hopefully Laxman gets going. If Dravid and Laxman stay at the crease while India cross 300, then it's going to be very tough for the Aussies. Kohli and Dhoni are very dangerous players to have in your team when the team's on top.

The reason India are on top now is because of the bowling performance. The bowlers for once played up to their potential collectively as a pack, and there was no weak link. Fingers crossed this attitude and performance continues for the rest of the series and beyond. Yadav, Ishant and Ashwin are there for the long run, I reckon, and we need one more good bowler in the line up. PKumar is okay, but we need a real leader of the pack to replace Zak in the future.

Awesome batting from Sachin. I was hoping that he would get that 100 but he got a ripper from Siddle. Dravid was not looking comfortable at all after teabuy still he stayed there are that is important for India.

Now for tomorrow, If Ishant can survive some time, that would be ideal for India. Dravid has to stay there throughout the inning. He is the one who has hold on the innings for India.

some great performances but a shout out to the groundsman too, this is an exceptional cricket pitch. rewarding bowlers with movement but also true enough to allow proper stroke playing. absolutley perfectly judged.

Its still a good batting pitch. I wish Ishant can irritate the Aussies for sometime, and then let Laxman take over. I am expecting some runs from Kohli or Dhoni (more so since this pitch doesnt offer much in terms of sideways movement). But if they come in when the new ball is on, not much can be expected. So basically, it would be Laxman who is the reliable bet to take India a lot forward. For once, we have a very good chance to push forward positively in the first test of a series and that too in a country like Australia. Thats a major plus. Pray to god we don't fluff it up.:yes

Agree with everything written here!:cheers I wish that fourth guy is a left arm seamer like Zak. Probably Irfan Pathan? But if Ishant and Yadav remain as fast as they are right now, then Praveen Kumar will be an ideal foil. We dont need all of them to be express. Ishant, Yadav, Praveen, Irfan and Aaron should hopefully carry our bowling attack forward for the future after Zak.

Too bad Sachin couldn't get out in the 90's, all those Indian tears would have sustained me for the rest of the night drinking and gambling like a mofo.

I am sorry from Sachin's behalf to spoil your party. It will either be below 90's or it will be the 100th 100 :D :p

Surprised by Sehwag. Failed to cross even 10 runs in tour matches and scores 67 here in a quick time.

That indicates that he thrives when the stakes are higher. But still, his innings here was streaky and he had so many lives. Anyhow, thats how he plays.

Really excited to see what happens today. I feel a lead of 150 will be good enough but yes if you dont want to bat again score around 600 runs which means 400 runs in 1 and half day which is highly possible. Go India Go

Watson in doubt for remainder of series

CA always seems to be misleading us with the injuries, first Cummins was a a minor injury which spiraled to missing the new year and then apparently Watson was in contention for this match to likely missing most of the series. That will save Hussey though unless we get batted into the ground here and Clarke demands for Christian.

Well I'm not surprised Clarke wants Christian - look how much he's using the part timers. 7 overs already between Hussey and Warner in only 65 overs bowled?? Surely the 4 specialists are fit enough so that 7 is too many. 7 might be OK over a full days bowling, but Australia only bowled 3 overs before lunch, so they should have been fresh enough. Sure try Hussey for an over before tea, maybe one after tea too, but yea gods why any more than that?

Really liked a couple of Pattinson's spells yesterday, he seems like a great guy to start a session with for 3-4 overs, if he hasn't got it quite right then bring him back to finish the session off - he seems to get it right eventually. Bowling still needs to be a bit fuller.

And would like to see Lyon get a good hour long spell this morning before the new ball, I can almost guarantee it won't happen, but I think he deserves the chance to work into his spells a bit more.

I was also interested in Sehwag's innings of how awkward he looked against the bouncer. Whenever I see Sehwag highlights it's off him bashing full straight balls over midwicket or slashing anything wide of off stump. When's the last time he's had to play a sustained spell of short bowling at his helmet? Same for Sachin, he's playing that ramp shot over the slips, but what if the bowlers came round the wicket and made the angle really difficult to play that shot? I think the bowling was too back of a length generally, but there also weren't enough good short ones - at Sehwag and Sachin there should be 2 an over I reckon - as long as they are tight at the body so they can't slash over the slips.

Oh and interesting to read the tabloids saying that India are in the box seat/strong position etc. Australia was 3/205 at one point, why is India's 3/214 so awesome? The old addage of adding 2 wickets onto the score and then analysing the game would be prudent in this case. Yes, India's had a strong start in their reply, but they are far away from being on top, knowing they have to bat last.

Hilfy ended up being the problem. Apart from his opening spell where he was dangerous and one ball where he managed to get an edge dropping short he was leaking runs which meant Clarke couldn't keep him on for a longer spell. Although if he would have used him in a longer spell is another question. This is where our team needs a bowler that can keep it tight and bowl long spells. Copeland obviously springs to mind but question marks remain over his wicket taking ability plus he didn't do much in his return to say he should be picked and he's injured so Hazlewood would be the next closest.
