FORMER Test paceman Brad Williams' immediate playing future is in doubt after he withdrew from today's ING Cup cricket match against Tasmania at the WACA Ground in Perth.

Williams was yesterday dropped from the Warriors' Pura Cup team to face the Tigers on Sunday, but had been included in the squad for today's one-day fixture.

The 31-year-old reacted angrily to his axing from the Pura Cup team and, according to a statement from the Western Australian Cricket Association, "has decided to take some time away from cricket to consider his future as a member of the Western Australian squad".

He has been replaced by Steve Magoffin for today's match.

Williams played four Test matches and 25 one-day internationals for Australia, but has been troubled by a series of shoulder, knee and back injuries in recent years.

He was close to a return to his home state of Victoria in the off-season, before deciding to remain in Western Australia.

Williams leads ING Cup bowlers with 12 wickets so far this season, but has taken just five scalps in five Pura Cup innings.

To me this shows Williams has lost the passion for cricket. What happened to the fighting spirit that guys like Lehmann and Martyn have shown. Both these guys could have said thats it after being dropped but they didn't.

Williams was bowling pies all year, the first right move WA selectors have made all year.

Lehmann was never dropped from the Pura Cup squad.

He was dropped from the Aussie squad though. Williams is a spoit brat. He had a fit when he was dropped for Bracken from the Australian team. Nothing has changed.

Nathan Hauritz was dropped from the Pura cup side, do you see him pulling out of the ING cup game for Queensland?

Well still doesn't justify what Williams did. If you get dropped from a side you try and regain it not throw a hissy fit and pull yourself out of the ING cup game. He was clearly out of form and shouldn't be surpised he was dropped.

But you're comparing unrelated circumstances.
Injuries have dominated Williams' career, he's only played 69 First Class and 91 List A games. Compare that with 196 First Class games and 272 List A games for Martyn or 251 First Class games and 337 List A's for Darren Lehmann. Williams must have questioned his career a hundred times, what cause could Lehmann have to question his? Sure, he was dropped from the international arena, but he's still the captain of his team and certainly fit to play.

I'm not saying it was the most responsible thing to do, but surely he's at his wits end and looking for some faith which obviously he hasn't received.

pfft, Clark? he has been shocking and is in team because his dad is the coach, pfft!

Williams is in plain bad form. No going past that, thus he was dropped. And now hes not even playing ING Cup gamesso its not like hes going to be able to take Clark's spot now is he?
