Captains

Sorry mate ,I wont agree with you there , anyway ... for me YES he is ...

Ponting was out-captained during the Ashes and in some instances was out captained by one of his own- Shane 'the king' Warne. This is still the case. Vaughan is a much better captain

Hmm. Fleming, I presume. Though I've never seen him in action. How often these days, do you see a captain winning a game through captaincy? Rarity.

Ponting is getting better at captaining, but I don't see any captains getting better at batting.

ponting probley the best captain at batting, but his captaincy is often predictable and boring.

Yes, he's definitely been a captain whose batting has not been affected negatively since taking over the post. But then, Australia has not really dealt with any major pressure since his captaincy, apart from The Ashes.

Exactly. Ponting isn't bad so long as theres no pressure. The Ashes and first SA test showed him under pressure. Against us in an ODI he made a fielding muck up when he was under pressure.

His batting did improve when given captaincy, which was good though.

Yeh, but the declaration i think was still a good decision, i would of thought warne on a day 5 pitch that looked like it had gone to sh*t and already 2 wickets down, but meh such is life

It was more the bowling changes i nthe second innings which I am thinking of. Yeah mabee he went a little far. I still would of backed Australia to bowl them out in 4 sessions on the second-to and last day myself so I don;t blame him.

Personally Fleming is the best captain in the world and heard many commentators on air also saying Fleming is the best. He has great tactical thinking and knows exactly where to place his fields and often likes to expose the batsman's weaknesses. I remember he implemented the short point fielder to Damien Martyn and it was a success. Ponting i feel isn't the best of captains. The only reason why he has such a high winning percentage is because he has the likes of Warne and McGrath in the team. He should really take some notes ou of Steve Waugh's textbook on captaincy. :D

Ponting isn't really captaining the side though because of the 'team effort thing'. Therefore, his batting is in great touch. He lets people like Warne and Gilchrist do most (not all) the work. He needs to get over the pressure points of the game otherwise he would be the complete captain.

Lets not forget that Gilchrist led the side in India- not Ponting. Australia won the series. Gilchrist doesn't get given the credit he deserves even though he wouldn't make a great captain 'cos he keeps wicket.

If I had to choose a captain in the world right now, it would be a toss up between Vaughan and Fleming with Ponting coming in third. Smith of South Africa would be fourth.

Boy do you have that wrong...He made some unusual decisions
against the World XI and reduced their batting freedom big time,
the 3rd One Day game showed that, AUS won by 156 runs!,
the 2nd showed that, AUS won by 55 runs,
the 1st game showed that, AUS won by 93 runs.

Goes to show that one bad series in his entire captaincy in
the Ashes doen't mean your not the best...
How many Ashes series has Vaughan won = 1,
well that's how many Ponting has lost.

Vaughan the best...what a joke! :D

I'll drink to that! Inzi for me. Vaughan is poo. He goes off the field to talk to the never-smiling, rude, arrogant coach of pomville to get his advise. most captains don;t put the spirit of the game in disrepute. most captains don't send their bowlers off efore and after spells to limber up. most captains would sign a document before a major test series stating they will make substantial efforts to reinforce the spirit of cricket. most captains will have scored a ODI century batting at number three after 74 matches. in 256 matches, he has only scored 3 tons in DOMESTIC ONE DAY CRICKET! that is an appauling record. he wouldn't even make the australian A team, and he is your captain? ponting has scored mare centuries in ODI's the Vaughan has scored 50's. thats pretty bad, right?

Since when do Aussies know about the spirit of the game??? Vaughan got a lucky break I must admit but he is a good leader. The Aussies are still the best cricket team but definitely dont have the best captain. You dont have to be a good batsman to be a good captain.

Stasts wise Inzi has the best stats while being captain, they showed it in the Aus v SA first game.. Inzi has a average of 84 as captain.
