Looks like almost all cricket boards are adopting the central contracts for the players. Amidst this there have been many problems starting with Indian players not agreeing entirely to the contract system followed by WI players and now Shoaib Akhtar refusing to sign the contract with Pak board as he will have to get permission of the board for all of his personal commercial endorsements.

How much do you think the boards should have a say towards players individual endorsement deals? Is contract system good or bad?

it is bad' specially for pakistani player's they dont get that much money' so they make most of there moneys out of commercialing' the top player's like youhana and inzimam gets around 1000 dollars a month can you believe it' And if you compare this money to what indian's get you will see a big diference so i would say it is a bad idea' And they should get more money then that i am talking about pakistani player's they are doing a good job beating india almost every time"

Really depends on a few things:
1) Does the board expects that the players should behave like slaves and not endorse this product and that even when they are not playing...then its ridiculous as it has happened in so many controversial contracts...it means something like this "your employer trying to rent out a room from a house owned by you"...quoted from cricinfo..
2) Does it suit your players' psychology...it seems (esp. Hyderabadi players in India) that they get complacent as soon as their pay and place in the team is assured...first you have to induce the right kinda spirit and culture in the players for it to work as well it has done in Australia and perhaps England...
3) It needs to be implemented correctly like done by Cricket Australia...

then it will work out "Good" thats what I voted for...

Thats a bold statement you made there. I know you are talking about Laxman but please do not generalize it to Hyderabadi players without any proof. please provide some proof if you can.

its not bold...i there have been two players of note from Hyderabad...and I don't have the least doubt in my mind that they are two of the best and most elegant batsmen that the world has seen...Azaruddin and Laxman...great batting skills, timing sense and beautiful shots...but wrong psyche for me...

To me Azar was always guilty of what I accused him of above...I can remember at least two-three occassions in latter part of his career when he just didnt seem to perform unless he personally was cornered...in the end he was found guilty of a much graver offence and justice was meted out properly but still I think had he had a better approach, India would have done better under him...can't put these occasions correctly as its been a few years now...and it was just an impression...

Laxman...the latest example would be his Mumbai knock...look we here in India can feel the pressure building on any player to perform...and we could feel that had he not performed well in that innings, Kaif would have replaced him in Kanpur...he was out of form alright but he fought it out to save his place in the team...one more example would be his slump in oneday form...he was dropped from WC 2003 and he fought back with something like 5 ODI centuries then as is Ganguly's wont he told him u r a great and u will definitely get a place in the side...and he starts looking mediocre...he has been "rested" against Bangladesh and you can easily bet on it that he will come back fighting for his ODI place against Pakistan...

even his great 281 was a desperate attempt...perhaps to make himself believe that he was good enough internationally...I read an interview from Ramesh who was his roomie in Kolkata 2001 and he said something to this effect "Laxman was terribly troubled and he said 'if I can make 300's only in Ranji and not here then its better I go back to medicine' "...

So what I meant was that for some players(and just happened to mention these two players by their common denominator) are not as driven by money or security as they are by desperation...they have the goods, but they are more likely to deliver if and when pressed upon - personally...
