Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

We were robbed! What a random time to bring this up!

Will_NA added 3 Minutes and 14 Seconds later...

1-0 at Analfield, 0-0 at Stamford Bridge with Chelski having 117 penalties turned down despite Anelka being assualted in the face and dying off mass blood loss as a result.

And Matt has some astounding psychic abilities if you replace 1-0 at Analfield with 0-0 at Camp Nou and and 0-0 at Stamford Bridge with 1-0.

Alright, maybe it's just the penalties but it was a Semi and the decider was at Stamford Bridge. ;)

Champions League qualifiers tonight. Arsenal should have a bit too much for Celtic, and Stuttgart should also be able to get the right result against Timisoara, but the Romanians beat Shakhtar to get here so it might not be very easy, especially with first leg being in Romania.

Fiorentina-Sporting should be close. Sporting have a appauling record against Italian teams so I think Prandelli's boys should make it through to the group stages as well.

Oh and yes, Madrid's second team are also playing, tomorrow.

Hleb's an excellent player, rated him very highly when he was playing in England, really should have stayed at Arsenal, he's far too good to be playing for Stuttgart. Get him back in the Premier League.

FFS, Eduardo. Didn't expect that from you and there was no need for it at all.

Steven tweaking Gerrard. The media will happily get on their high horses and condemn these damn foreigners ruining our game, not playing fair and diving all over the place when they completely fail to acknowledge Steven Gerrard. Every fan knows Gerrard dives. It's pure xenaphobia.

Not that I like Arsenal or anything (although their style of football is wondeful to watch) but this is actually pretty ridiculous. Is Eduardo the first person ever to have dived on a football pitch? The penalty only increased the margin of victory and its not like Celtic were robbed or anything. To be honest, without seeing the replay I did not think it was a dive, so the referee is not at fault.

Diving is bad but it is impossible to eradicate it. It actually spoils the player's reputation, as referees think twice before giving decisions in favour in the future.

Well then it's the player's own fault isn't it, they don't have to dive.

I swear if they ban Eduardo, they better ban everyone who dives later on in the competition. It's not like he doesn't deserve a ban but talk about inconsistency. Uefa are only considering it because the SFA call for it. Does that mean every national board has to call for sanctions against players for it to happen? There is no way Uefa could keep it up (I would love it if they did). If they ban Eduardo and let others slide, it's a fliping joke.

Agree with that actually, he deserves it, but it should be for every dive if he is gonna get a ban. I notice the SFA weren't calling for it when Jarosik dived against United to win Celtic a free kick from which they scored from a couple of years back.
