Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

I hate it when people do this when they lose games. They tried to defend why they lost and say "oh well we won last year...." even though deep down you care.

So your saying you weren't dissapointed when Man Utd lost? Yeah that's right.

I hate it when people try and tell me how I should be feeling. Of course it hurts, but what do you expect me to do, come on here and write a poem about how watching united lose broke my heart. Of course not and I'm not going to let it ruin what's been a good season.

Our posts are almost identical.

If you do a poem I'll give you some vcash, how much vcash is dependant on how good it is. ;)

First of all, the better team won no doubt about that. Barca are the best team in the world, fact. Now for the rant...

WTF?!! Shocking performance. God awful. No spirit, no heart, no energy. Just a lazy game which we didn't want to win. Barca weren't brilliant, we just let them play well. No closing down whatsoever, Iniesta just skipped past everyone. We just didn't want to win, it was like a normal league game which we didn't need to win.

The first goal was very poor. No closing down of Iniesta, then just let him skip past everyone. Eto'o was free on the edge of the area, then he managed to cut inside! Vidic should know he would cut inside, he wouldn't have been able to score on the other side. And once again VDS lets in a goal on the near post. To be fair to VDS, he was our best player by far. Thanks to him it wasn't 4-0.

The second goal was even worse! First VDS' kick was atrocious, he really needs to improve that if he wants to play next season. Then the closing down of Xavi, THERE WAS NONE!! Then just to top it all off, Messi was unmarked in the box for a free header. Shocking.

Tevez did run around a lot and gave a lot to the team last night but it's a team game and unfortunately no one else turned up. We were totally owned in midfield which is stupid because pretty much everyone was in the midfield. Once again, we didn't have a target man waiting at the edge of the box/in the box for the attack. Everyone was in midfield, and in midfield they didn't do anything. We really missed Fletcher last night. He's an unsung hero. Puts a hell of a lot of drive, passion and energy into the side and would've played his heart out. Someone who will definitely help us next season is Hargreaves. He knows how to hold the midfield and can allow others to go further forward and let the likes of Rooney and hopefully Tevez to go further forward.

All in all the best team won because Man Utd didn't show up.

[/rant]

Having said all that, there's always next year :p.

It was the game between the best team in the world and the second best team in the world this season. And it has to be said that the best team in the world this season won. The second best team in the world this season did not play their best football, but I dont think it would matter anyways. It would have been at the most a bit more exciting.

Losing one of the most important games of his career to a first year coach isn't to pretty. He's still a legend no doubt though.

Not the best way to judge I think. Guardiola has had a great start, but he is still has a lot to prove, that he can maintain what he has created. Fergie, on the other hand, has nothing left to prove.

Also Guardiola is a catalan, so he can never be a legend.:D

I think we got caught on a night where barcelona were at their best and we were average. I think the pitch played into the hands of barca as it was a complete carpet which suited their style of play almost perfectly. You could see whenever we tried a quick attack with a long ball it would skid out of play, but with barca's precision in the middle they picked the man everytime.

Personally I think we missed a trick tactically as Pep seemed to have us figured out from the arsenal game. I dont think playing Giggs behind the striker was the right plan we needed 3 across the middle not 2 with one infront. Other than that its hard to complain we got caught out twice and on another night with some of the chances we got it could have gone the other way. But thats football and i hope the lads have a good break and are back in fighting form for next season.

Does this mean Barcelona are basically a cert to reach next year's final? Or will a team like Liverpool or Chelsea put 10 men behind the ball and hoof it?

Ofcourse they arent. Chelsea showed over 2 legs you can shut up shop and almost beat them bar an unstoppable goal. The worry is though theres only really 4 dominant sides in europe now that have the squads to get to the final and 3 are english and one are spanish. Might start to see Juve coming back into it though.

Well no one is a cert to be honest. I mean you would say, how can any team stop Barca with the way they have played this season. But then, thats what people were saying in 2006 when they won the double. But Liverpool did beat them fair and square the next season.

Well the Final is at the Bernabeu next year. Imagine if Barcelona and Madrid both made it for that Final! But I doubt that will happen

Alot of things can change in one season. Who knows Madrid could be treble winners next year. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN FOOTBALL!

P.S.: Where are all those fake, joke, plastic, glory hunting bitter fans who never give credit to other teams even when its due. Hiding in your burrow ? Come on get out and have the balls to appreciate a deserving champion rather than beating the drum of your past glory and showing fake bitterness.
Erm, if you'd read the last 5 or so pages, you'd probably realise every United fan who has been on here has praised Barcelona. Worthy winners, and a top class team.

At the end of the day cricketdudemad, we won an 18th league title this season, as well as reaching a Champions League final, an Fa Cup semi final, winning the Carling Cup and winning the World Club Championship. A brilliant achievement, only bettered by one team on the planet. Proud to be a United fan after that.:)

Joe, I'm still trying to decipher your Facebook status message at 3 in the morning.;)

haha Man Utd didn't even have any chances after the 10th minute.

Did you even see the rest of the game? Berbatov had two golden chances: a header that he put over the bar and a mishit shot (both in the second half).

Barca were the better team, so fair play to them, but Utd certainly had their chances to get back into it. And as we all know, every team in the world would get nervous if 2-0 became 2-1 with twenty or so minutes to go.

The headlines of some of the papers have got it right. Things such as 'Man Utd give in without a fight'. Spot on; there was no fight in the team at all, something that really puzzles and slightly worries me. In the first ten minutes, we had them on the ropes, but after that stupid soft goal by Eto'o, we just mentally threw the towel in, if not physically. That first goal was vital: had it not came, I'm sure we would've scored because as everyone could see, they were not in the game for the first ten minutes. But, 'if' is a very big word.

We lost, so what? Doesn't mean that it's the end of the world for us! We're not the first; no-one has been able to defend the trophy and there's nothing to say that Barca won't go the same way. They didn't play the real Man Utd last night, not the Utd that passes the ball with ease and fights with everything they've got. Maybe we'll meet again next year...

Edit: And Cricket Doctor? Try actually reading the last few pages as Phil said...

I thought Sir Alex did make numerous tactical mistakes yesterday and I agree when people say he was being sentimental starting Giggs and Park, but he's allowed the odd bad night (!) As you said, on another night, it could've been different: that Ronaldo shot that almost shaved the post for example. 9 out 10 times, that would've nestled in the back of the net and we wouldn't have had to spend the rest of the game chasing the ball.

I hate it when people do this when they lose games. They tried to defend why they lost and say "oh well we won last year...." even though deep down you care.

So your saying you weren't dissapointed when Man Utd lost? Yeah that's right.

That's why we've been using words like 'gutted' and 'frustrated', isn't it?

On another note: what the hell was that Barca player doing cutting up the nets???

Utd had them by the throat in the first five-ten minutes but it all vanished instantly. It frustrates me that they played like that, especially since we know that they can play much better.
