Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

I don't get this at all. You're on Sky Sports is full of people acting like it's the end of Man Utd! Why is there a post-mortem because of one bad game?? We had a bad night at the office, that's all there is to it.

Edit: The pundits have it spot on: Berbatov needs to get the Man Utd attitude and fast if he doesn't want to be out on his ear.

Edit: Did I hear that right? Just now on You're on Sky Sports, some fool was saying that Sir Alex should go now because Gordon Strachan is ready to take over the job!!!!! I think some people have been having some very strange drinks tonight.

Can hardly put the blame on Berbatov tonight though. I can see why people think he's not done as well as he should (even though I'll point out he's got some crucial goals for us), but tonight isn't the night to criticise him. No one played well, and he was only given half an hour or so anyway. As I say, it was the midfield that did the job for Barca, they controlled it in that area, meaning our forward players were living off a drip to be honest. Nobody really played well, so it's not fair to single someone out for it.

I know, it's just he had such golden chances to score tonight. It's just frustration coming through. I do think he needs to buck his ideas up.

Edit: Would you get a midfielder in, Phil? If so, who?

Xavi
Iniesta
Fabregas
etc.;)

But none of them are realistic unfortunately, I'd say someone like De Rossi from Roma, would be a good signing. Hargreaves will be like a new signing next season though, he might have just got a grip on that game tonight a bit more. Pity we didn't have Fletcher either, he might have hurried their midfield a bit more. Anyway, I suppose it's all ifs, buts and maybes, if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle.

Although we have had success since Roy Keane's departure, we never have really replaced him have we? Could you see a midfield led by him throwing in the towel so easily; remember the Juve game from ten years ago. We need a midfield general.

Congratulations Barca on being crowned the 'Best Team in Europe'. Not only that, they are arguably the 'Best Team in the World'. Man united are a great side too but are still just behind Barca. Barca showed yesterday that if you don't sit back against them and try to play football, you can't compete with them. Madrid also tried that few days ago and got slaughtered. Barca have some unbelievably talented footballers who play breath-taking football week in week out. We talk about Ronaldo and Messi as the best footballers in the world, but Iniesta and Xavi are from a completely different class of their own. If anybody want a proof, they can have a look at the stats: the best passer for Barca yesterday was Xavi with staggering 92% accuracy and Iniesta with 84% accuracy. They ran the show in the midfield. On the other hand, United's best passer was none other than Rio Ferdinand with 82% accuracy. :D That shows the level of Barca's football. They are the real definition of a real, true and proper football club in case anyone still not convinced.
Congratulations ones again Barca and thanks for entertaining millions of football fans with your beautiful football. A thoroughly deserved champions who completely outclassed the second best team in the world on the day. (except first 7-8 minutes.)

P.S.: Where are all those fake, joke, plastic, glory hunting bitter fans who never give credit to other teams even when its due. Hiding in your burrow ? Come on get out and have the balls to appreciate a deserving champion rather than beating the drum of your past glory and showing fake bitterness.

CD give up you know nothing about Football. You say "if you sit back and let them control the game they win" well your wrong there. You have to play counterattacking football against Barca because if you try to out pass them you are going to get slaughtered.

What a manager Pep Guardiola is. He used Messi to roam around the midfield, while Ronaldo was sitting to far up that Barcelona completely shut him up, he even got a bit aggressive. Alex Ferguson 'legend' got completely beaten today. I say if Barcelona get faster defenders they could be something unstoppable. Pique played well though no doubt. But in that messi goal he was in that. What was he doing there?

Sylvinho had a great game for someone who hasn't played much this year. Iniesta and Xaxi were AWESOME.

So today means Barcelona > Man utd and Messi> Ronaldo?

Right a few thoughts.

Number 1, Barca are and have been the best team in Europe, they deserved to win and are top class, there's no shame in losing to them, especially when it's our first defeat in 2 years, since the Milan games. Well really they shouldn't have been there but you know they are still the best.

Secondly, our fans had acted like a bunch of tossers before this game. Quite frankly I think a lot of them deserved this. Not talking about the proper fans either but you know what I mean I'm sure. Maybe it's just me but some people really do have no idea.

Thirdly I can't say I remember that much of the game but I will say that I thought we were battering them for the first 6 minutes.

Fourthly, champions of England. :D We had a bad night and Fergie really needs to cotton on to the fact that playing players in their best positions works. Playing them somewhere else is just to catch sides out and stuff, but Rooney is not a left winger, Ronaldo is a winger etc, too much time thinking about the opposition, not enough about united.

Fithly, if that's a word. Can all those people who said to me that we didn't need a central midfielder kindly flip off. Admittedly we probably would have performed a lot better with Fletcher but still.

Sixthly. The dickhead wearing a Barca shirt in the club yesterday can bugger off.

Seventhly. I haven't been bed yet woop :banana2 Walked 2 miles to maccy D's for breakfast and it was horrible. :banana2

rant over, congrats Barca.

Where did I say "if you sit back and let them control the game they win" ? I just said "if you don't sit back against Barca, and try to match them with your technical abilities, you won't be able to match them."

Alex Ferguson 'legend' got completely beaten today.

If you are seriously questioning Fergie's status as a legend in the sport after a bad game you should be shot. Wow, he got it wrong, jesus that's disgraceful, managing 20 years and he makes a mistake, what a crap manager.

Losing one of the most important games of his career to a first year coach isn't to pretty. He's still a legend no doubt though.

It's not that important. They were better than us on the night, if we'd gone out in the quarters everyone would have just said oh well, no-one has ever defended the trophy. If he'd won it would have been huge but losing doesn't really have a negative impact, the main thing was the title this year.
