Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Barca played absolute superb. United were confused :p despite of lack of defenders Barca made united look without any defence. Thats why we say Messi >>>>> Ronaldo. Actually Iniesta was the main man today. United look dangerous only in the begining 5-7 mins, just like soda bottle ......... whoosh :D

Avroneel go away you prick.

One has to say though, Barca really were a class apart tonight. Unlucky Vaughan.

Ronaldo always looks like the pitch is the last place he'd like to be.

passing maked the difference,:banana2
Barca defended well after that first goal, and second goal was a great :happy
in one word i am happy;):D

Rooney, Carrick, Anderson, Berbatov did not turn up. Man Utd looked scared trying to compete with Barcelona after they scored the first Goal

In the whole the team that played the beautiful game won the cup. The way it should be!

Wow. That Eto'o goal was an exact replica of his goal against us only he did from the right wing.

Valdez is completely hopeless as well. I can see him costing Barca the game.

Thirdly, that's why every football fan knows Iniesta is far better than Fabregas. He made a chance out of nothing.

That goal should never have happened. Our defence was rubbish and Van der Sar really should've saved it.

Barca dominated the whole match. Excellent performance.

Did you see the match? Everyone watching with me agreed: both teams were rubbish in the first half, in fact, the first half was dire stuff to watch. The problem was, we didn't use the ball well enough

No-one turned up today. Ronaldo was nowhere, as were most of the other guys and as for Berbatov! He had two golden chances, both of which he should've scored with. He didn't live up to his prematch talk that he 'really wanted it'. Could've fooled me.

Ronaldo always looks like the pitch is the last place he'd like to be.

He wasn't there tonight, that's for sure.

Both goals were soft goals that, had the Utd defence been playing properly, wouldn't have happened. They weren't excellent Barca moves: the first goal was down to Carrick giving the ball away when all he had to do was nod it down to a team mate and the second was because Evra tried a fancy dan flick, when he should've booted the ball to Mars!

Barcelona were the better team tonight, but we allowed them to be! After the first goal, we just never got started again. There was no drive, no closing down, none of that hard work ethic that Utd are so famed for. We didn't deserve to win. One other thing, when I heard Evra spouting his mouth off that he was the best left-back in the world, I was worried. He was clearly going in with massive complacency and against people like Messi, Iniesta, Xavi et all, you just cannot do that. It was the worst Utd performance, especially defensively, that I've seen for some time and taking into account the scale of the game, the lack of drive from our players was astounding.

Oh well, we'll have to settle for a double this year. Still better than Liverpool or Chelsea have managed this season. You have to laugh, some people seem happier when Utd lose than when their own team wins. Which is pathetic, as far as I'm concerned.

Souness has summed it up just now: none of our big players turned up. Not one.

Gutted, but fair play Barca, they were class tonight, outplayed us. They've got some quality footballers, theirs turned up and ours didn't unfortunately. Doesn't seem as difficult to take as it has when we've lost previous finals, just feel a bit like the game has passed by us. Again I say well done to Barca, got to admire their football, and we'll just have to be stronger and improve for next season, hopefully Hargreaves can bring something to that midfield which wasn't great tonight.

Maybe the fat spanish waiter should take note of what Fergie said in his interview about how Barcelona were the better team, showing class when Benitez couldn't do it.

I know we're going to get it in the neck from city/liverpool/anti-united fans, but I'll just say this. We've won the league, the carling cup and the world club championship which tells me we've had a brilliant season.

The best team won, yes, but if you think that Utd haven't been playing beautiful football, then you haven't been watching many of our games this year. Didn't happen tonigh obviously, but throughout the season, we have played some great stuff. Didn't you see the two games against Arsenal?

Exactly, Phil. It has been a superb season: to even reach the final again was a great achievement. What the hell is happening with Hargreaves? I thought he was on the mend...

It wasn't the classic everyone said it would be, I thought it was quite boring, especially the first half.

As for City fans: what have they won this year? Diddly squat.
Liverpool fans? Diddly squat.

Man Utd? Premier League champions. Again (EEEEEEEIiiiiiiggghttteeen Tiiiiimmmmmeees), League Cup Winners and we also picked up the trophy which means we're the World Champions as well.

I can't believe everyone is now bleating that the Premiership has been taught a lesson. We didn't play at all! Not because Barcelona stopped us: this guy on Sky Sports has summed it up brilliantly: 'There was no English grit, no passion'.

Edit: I think Benitez is acting like a baby with his refusal to congratulate Fergie on his season. A big fat Spanish baby.

Agreed we didn't play well MB, but let's not take anything away from Barca, they stopped us playing well, and it's their night, fair play to them.

Fair play, agreed, but it's so bloody frustrating that we just didn't seem to want it after the first ten minutes!

"Men against babies."

Patrice Evra is a twat and got what he deserved tonight.

On a side note, Thierry Henry has won just about everything he can.

The World Cup
European Championship
The League
The National Cup
The Champions League

as well as a few personal honours.

Obviously, he hasn't won the biggest one of them all - the League Cup.

Unfortunately that game proved M_Vaughan's claim that Utd rely on Ronaldo. He was the only man that looked likely to score tonight, but failed to put away his chances, and hence, United lost.

Vidic was all at sea in another big game, the 2nd in a row that's happened. May just be a co-incidence, but he was awful once more. Guess my prediction about United winning comfortably was wrong, epicly wrong at that. Iniesta is one of the greatest players in the world. Been incredibly impressed by him everytime I've watched him play, the unsung hero of the Barca side. Superb performance from them, shame to see the Champions League go to someone outside England though :( Platini going to claim that Spain need a 6 and 5 rule?

Was that a sly dig William?

Obviously it's not the biggest of trophies and winning tonight or the Fa Cup would have been bigger than that. But it is a trophy, and with the lack of trophies at your club at the moment, I wouldn't be undervaluing anything.

EDIT: It proved nothing about how we rely on Ronaldo. It proved just how good Barcelona are, and that we need to improve generally. It was the midfield that won Barca the game, nothing to do with how Ronaldo did, he can't do much if we haven't got the ball.

It wasn't a dig at United. It was a joke.

This is a dig at United. Your treble is just about as creditable as Liverpool's in 2001. Patrice Evra was outpaced by a 72-year old centre back and your team, let alone your fans, disappeared after 10 minutes.
