Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Are we going to have a Fantasy Game based on this one too?

Here is a link to the official one but it's yet to be launched.

Guys thought of the champions league for quite sometime and came with something interesting related to Liverpool, man United and the nation that won Champions league. If we analyze their performances in the champions league from 2003 (the year i started following soccer) its like this :

Season|Liverpool|Man United|Winning Nation
2003|Group Stages| QF|AC Milan (Italy)
2004|Did not Qualify| 2nd Round|Porto (Portugal)
2005|Champions|2nd round|Liverpool (England)
2006|2nd Round|Group Stages|Barcelona (Spain)
2007|Runners-Up|Semis|AC Milan (Italy)
2008|Semis|Champions|Man United (England)
2009|QF|Runners-Up|Barcelona (Spain)
2010|Group Stages|QF|Inter (Italy)
2011|Did not qualify|TBD|TBD

If you guys can observe , the cycle that started in 2003 once again is repeating itself from 2010 . So if this cycle continues , Liverpool will lift the champions league in 2012 :p

Liverpool in this form I cant see them qualifying for even the Europa League next season leave alone Champions League. Winning the Champions League is way too far away.

Cant wait for Liverpool v United at Old Trafford this weekend.

Barcelona will be taking on Panathinaikos and Real Madrid against Ajax. Ajax will be without Suarez and it's unlikely that Ajax will beat Real Madrid again in Madrid.

Marin! Clinical stuff from him there! 2-2. Game on, great comeback from Bremen. They're considerably weaker without Mertesacker and Naldo, the first choice centre-backs. Great comeback so far. Hunt coming on has made a difference. Probably should've started in any case. Hope Bremen win this somehow.

And, gah, Valencia's injury. That looks horrific. Words can't describe how bad that looks. Probably going to be out for a very long time.

Gibson once more proving he's nothing more than a longshot merchant. He has a poor first touch, lacks creatively and only plays simple passes.

He's already nearly 23 and I doubt he's going to improve enough to cut it at Utd.

That's the sort of game that we would usually grab a late goal from. Two worrying things have happened this season: we have lost the knack of scoring late goals and have gained a habit of conceding them.

Barca won tonite. Interesting to see how Chelsea fancy do in their game

Well, I guess we missed Berbatov and Scholes today. Chicharito was hardly involved in the game in the first half and when Owen came one Owen hardly got more than 5 touches. Credit to Rangers they came with a plan and they were very discipline in defence.

Valencia's injury was just scary. I guess he wont play this season anymore. Come guys lets win the title and the champions league for Valencia..

Very much agree on the point about Berbatov and Scholes. So far this season, they have been the fundemental core of our creativity, with Nani to an extent. But the result wasn't that much of a surprise. It was the first game of the group stages, away from home, against a well organised Rangers side. But we were clearly lacking creativity, and whilst Scholes and Berbatov offer genuine excellence, we shouldn't be relying on them two.

Very disappointing for Valencia. It was a horrible injury and he's pretty much gone for the season.

What rotten luck for Valencia - he had a decent season last time round. Get better soon, Antonio. :(

Last night's 4-1 result against MSK Zilina was slightly surprising given that we struggled against minnows like Apoel Nicosia and CFR Cluj in the last two seasons. Benayoun was pretty good last night setting up two of those goals and Anelka played not too bad either. Even Sturridge played decently. However, the defense looked shaky when Zilina put us under pressure in the second half and Cech looks vulnerable at times when dealing with crosses, corners etc. Hope it is just a one off thing. And nice to see the likes of Kakuta and Josh McEachran getting some game time. :)

Real Madrid won against Ajax with 2-0, but it could have been easily 10-0. Real Madrid got more then 30 shots towards the goal. Ajax weren't helped by the suspension of Suarez and Vertonghen.
