Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

yeah, fair point he was only decent under SAF but Moyes' hoofball tactics make him look absolutely crap

Think so, but good to see that Kagawa isn't completely ruined like Sahin was and is.

I'd say it makes the others look like crap with him just standing around in free space.

Yeah I guess, but then again Moyes doesnt have the balls to drop the so-called 'big name players'(he's accepted this himself in a post match interview against newcastle, he said he was afraid of the crowd's backlash if he substituted van persie in that game).

Kagawa will probably be sold though as Mata is a better no.10, and quite exactly how Rooney plays ahead of either there is truly baffling. Don't get me wrong, Rooney is a brilliant striker, but he's no number 10.

Not sure I agree.

MB can vouch I'm far from Rooneys biggest fan, however you cannot deny his ability to play anywhere up top, I don't think I've seen a more creative forward then him since maybe Zola.

Rooney needs and demands to be in the game and having him as a striker is a waste of his talents, I think him as a number 10 is his best role.

A number 10 to me is someone who has almost a free role to do as they wish, and if you watch Rooney he is never in one position even if he is picked as a "striker", he is all over the place sometimes in his own half.

I don't doubt his creativity or work rate, but personally I don't think his passing ability is good enough to be a number 10(which is not to say his passing is bad, but it is not at the level that you would expect of a world class number 10) and he always likes going for the hollywood ball, which rarely ever comes off. He's got amazing finishing ability though, and that would be best utilised if he is played as a forward.
Also, he had his best season playing as the lone striker up top in 09-10.

And you must have watched Mata a lot at the bridge, surely you don't think Rooney is better than him in that position?

They're both different kind of #10s , Rooney is the more second striker type while Mata is the more playmaker type.

Expect BVB to pick up Kagawa again, could use his creativity a lot now that Gotze's gone.

Yeah - the time to get Klopp or any other top manager was when Sir Alex retired. Now any new manager won't be taking over a team at the top, but a midtable team that has lost its direction.

I hate to say it, but: Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba, Veron, Bebe - add to that list David Moyes - Sir Alex' worst ever signing. I have tried to show support and patience, but now as we approach March miles off the pace for even fourth place that patience is running thin. Rooney says that the players have to take the blame - I don't buy it for a minute that the appointment of David Moyes is not at least 80% behind the team's implosion.

Guus Hiddink confirms Netherlands return - ESPN FC

Louis van Gaal is there for the taking if you guys wish to sack Moyes in the summer.

I tell ya Diego Costa might be the difference between Spain potentially winning the world cup & Brazil not.

Man utd fans might have an extended stay in this thread after tonight...however long it might be.

At least we get to see United get absolutely torn to pieces in the next round :D

David De Gea - The Protector.
Van Persie- The Goal Machine.
Rooney- The Versatile.
Giggs- The Legend.
We're Manchester United and we bleed
RED!!

Evra had an absolute shocker yesterday. Fortunately for him, so was Perez, missing 3 great chances. The 3-0 scoreline flatters United imho, because Olympicaos really were the better side over two legs.

De Gea is one of the best keepers around atm, he's been immense since last season. It's an absolute farce that he doesnt get into the Spanish squad, definitely better than Valdes.

Still want Van Persie to leave though, this was his one good performance after how many months I dont even know.

Also good thing Evra reached his yellow cards limit, he was awful last night.
