Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

I don't think so that Klopp will ever leave Dortmund at tge expense of United.

BTW that was a sick result.Never expected them to lose to an Olympiakos team, who now look ti qualify to the quarters for the first time in more than 10 years I guess.Don't understand how come Srd Alex gave this team to Moyes. He picks the best players for the eleven...makes them play like shit, tastes defeats and slams the referees.Thats now what united is all about now.I dont see them moving further. And even if they do,they will crash out.

I don't know if I'd say Klopp will never leave BVB, he will have to some day, probably when the "European elites" are done ripping his team apart every year player after player.

Klopp will definitely leave BVB, he himself said he's not Sir Alex Ferguson to stay at one club for his whole career.

I just can't see any way that he'd go to Man Utd right now and I'm not sure why all Man Utd fans think he'll go there.

It's like when they figured Pep would come to United because of some mystical correlation between their academy setup and Barca's. :rolleyes

Yeah it's just how Man Utd fans are, this isn't '08 and more and they seem to forget that. There are a lot more attractive jobs than Man Utd, and honestly it's a bit like the English job. Expectations are too high, and you'll get mauled if you don't win a trophy every year or two.

I think Klopp will leave Germany, but the squad at Man Utd doesn't suit his playstyle at all. He could cut it at Real/Barca for sure, especially the latter, and in England I think teams like Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool would fit him better, at least right now.

Why wouldn't he though? Unlike at Dortmund, he'd have a shitload of money to spend(not City-esque but much more than Dortmund), the challenge of bringing a former european superpower back to the top plus I dont think there's a managerial vacancy opening up at any other big club in england/spain this summer.

That's ridiculous, don't remember anyone ever saying that.

Don't see how that is a problem, he can bring in his own players and change it.

And about the pressure thing, he wouldn't be a very good manager if he couldnt deal with it though would he?

Well, let's put all the cards on the table shall we... at BVB he has a project that he already believes in, Michael Zorc's project, and let's see what's greater, bringing back a "former European superpower", who aren't really former anything at this point, or building a club and a platform where a club goes head to head with the Bundesliga giant that is Bayern Munchen for years to come?

BVB as of right now is essentially a slightly better job to the United job that Sir Alex took in 1986, and the United job at this point is the Liverpool job in 1993.

That's ridiculous, don't remember anyone ever saying that.

Oh c'mon, that circle jerk went on from losing the CL final in 2009, to then being annihilated in the CL final in 2011, then 2012, and then through Pep's sabbatical, basically up until news got leaked that he had agreed to takeover from Jupp Heynckes when he retired.

But Dortmund can't compete with Munich if they keep stealing Dortmunds best players.

Dortmund are more or less a selling club right now, players see playing for them as a means to an end, rather than an end in itself. They can't even hold onto their own youth players ffs(gotze).
Klopp will eventually grow tired of his best players leaving, and will seek a move to a club that won't allow this to happen.

1 of 2 things will happen to BVB, 1 what you're suggesting which would be BVB losing players year after year and eventually not being able to replace them with equals and dwindling out to the darkness, or what I want to believe which is they keep replacing the players that go with somewhat equals and eventually, many years from now, with a club debt free, high in revenue and a European elite.

I know there isn't much respect for contracts in this day and age, but I believe it's different for managers and sporting directors, who are both signed on till 2018 with BVB, and for every Goetze there will be a Reus, who turned down Bayern prior to joining BVB just because that's his boyhood club.

Whether it's Klopp, Pep or whoever, there will be a change at Utd; I cannot see Moyes lasting past the summer. This season has been nothing short of disastrous; I think he's out of his depth tactically and that the players never really wanted to play for him.

I don't, but I cannot see the Glazers keeping Moyes on after this train wreck of a season. Six year deal wasn't it? Sounds just a touch optimistic now. Of course, that brings us once again to who could replace him. I think throwing Giggs in at the deep end is a bad idea; he needs to gain some experience at a smaller club first.

Juergen Klopp signs new Borussia Dortmund contract until 2018 - ESPN FC

He already had a deal through 2016, then he signed that extension to 2018.

Yeah - the time to get Klopp or any other top manager was when Sir Alex retired. Now any new manager won't be taking over a team at the top, but a midtable team that has lost its direction.

I hate to say it, but: Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba, Veron, Bebe - add to that list David Moyes - Sir Alex' worst ever signing. I have tried to show support and patience, but now as we approach March miles off the pace for even fourth place that patience is running thin. Rooney says that the players have to take the blame - I don't buy it for a minute that the appointment of David Moyes is not at least 80% behind the team's implosion.
