Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Manchester City v Barcelona

oooh, that could be interesting, thinking about it that clerical error that meant they didn't go for that extra goal v Bayern could come back to haunt them. I think city are capable of beating anyone, but the onus would be to do it in the home leg.

Olympiakos v Manchester United

Man U are going to skip into the last 8 without breaking a sweat.

Milan v Atl?tico Madrid

Milan should crush atletico :spy

Bayer Leverkusen v PSG

Leverkusen looked rubbish, Zlatan to be arrested for criminal damages against their back four.

Galatasaray v Chelsea

Chelsea are well capable of messing this up but should win.

Schalke v Real Madrid

Madrid probably delighted they can combine a scouting trip for Draxler with an easy tie.

Zenit v Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund.

Arsenal v Bayern Munich

Arsenal could maybe win/draw first leg, but will get stuffed like a turkey at Christmas in the 2nd leg.

Your spellings and capital letters needs improvement. :p (Just edited it by obviously using the quote)

Anyways I certainly agree with you there apart from the first one, Barca's attack at the moment vs Man City defense which can be shaky at time, but Barca's defense has been consistent thus far and Valdes wow has he surprised every one this season.

@Haarithan almost the same but just 1/2 small changes..
Man Utd v PSG
R Madrid v Atleti
Bayern v Dortmund
Chelsea v Barca

I want to see Messi score and then see what some "logical" people say when he scores past Cech because according to things I have seen, he is not the best until he scores past Cech..

the Cech vs Messi thing is a pointless rant. But funny how Messi squandered all his chances against Chelsea. Then he missed a pen against Courtois against Atletico in the super cup, and apparently he's from Chelsea. It's all pointless but funny. If Barca vs Chelsea happens I hope messi puts these stuff to rest.

Barcelona's defence might not be in peril but they will be tested from the second half of the season, especially now that Puyol's back, which is a boost but their defensive problems need a January fix. Otherwise they will have to suffer the repeat of last season if they draw a side like Bayern. Neymar has been a saving grace in Messi's absence, and how far he will go in the false nine role is to be seen but looks promising so far.

Valdes' always been a class keeper, he hit an untimely rough patch in 2012 but you could take a hint that it had to do with his contract stuff and he was overplayed; Pinto really didn't stand up in their crucial games. Barcelona should have a new look back 5 by the next season.

Was only a matter of time before Demicheles was exposed...poor defender

Fabregas tells Mourinho to 'shut up'-....This one made my day

Although I didn't watch the match,I had a hint that Barca will be the clear favourites.Although I dont know what happened when Demichelis tackled Messi, many quote that the challenge was outside the Penalty Area and all.Well,City have one more shot by beating Barca atleast 3-0 or 3-1 to book a place in the last 8.Although I dont see that happening unless Barca plays a ridiculous game.

BTW who should win in the Arsenal vs Bayern?
Arsenal for me

If Arsenal win the tie, it'd be as good as claiming Bayern's sixtuple; which is to further imply that it's very unlikely to see arsenal pull through this. It would take a very inspiring effort to challenge Bayern in managing to secure a lead to hold on to going into the away leg and choke them off, which would be incredible but unlikely. Right now their chances rest on ifs and buts and hoping for Bayern's lapses, so if they are to pull off at least a win arsenal have to put up their best performance of the season tonight. Expect a lot of german action from the home side. ;)

Fabianski is a good goalkeeper, but he was facing one of the best teams in the world if not the best, I think the tie was pretty harsh and unlucky for Arsenal. Ozil, now you got to wonder, does he deserve to be in the starting XI over Podolski?

Damn...Arsenal lost 2-0.Unfortunately I again missed the match,I still believe that they have put sone effort to just let Munich score 2 goals in the entire match, who are one of the more free scoribg team this season. We are in for a good 2nd leg..Arsenal beat Bayern 2-0 last time at Allianz Arena(We shall see that happening again)unldss something terrible of that sort happens again.Maybe they shall be able to pull this one off.

Meanwhile Milan just got damn unlucky. That goal by Costa cost them the match
It cannot be said that they are not a good team, they have just not played up to the standard that they have maintained over the years

Ozil is one of the biggest flops going.

Arsenal actually did well there , Ozil got unlucky and Neuer was awesome. The change which Pep did of bringing in Rafinha for Boateng was actually the key for Bayern's success , Rafinha just increased their attacking spirits. Well done Pep. :thumbs
