Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

:facepalm @ Fellani, he really is not suited to playing DM. If he is going to be effective, United will have to use him as a battering-ram back-up striker or an attacking mid-fielder like @ Everton.

As Didi Hamann says, he's worse in diving than Suarez ever was.

That goes without saying.

Young should be banned from football, guys like him and Bale get away with it since they're British. That's blatant cheating.

agree, he was absolutely excellent last night, (and the cards would never have been given in the EPL) he'll need a similar performance if he's playing against arsenal at the weekend.

i guess the only reason he may not be a DM is his consistency. he's had games there where he is completely anonymous. he's had games where he has dominated and comfortably been motm.

and i guess that's a position where you want a consistency above sporadic match-winning performances.

i've always assumed he will get more consistent with age though that has been pretty slow progress, probably not helped by being shifted around our line-up so much.

Sry fellas i have yet to see Fellani have a good game for United playing in that deep mid-field role. That is not the Fellani of Everton.

And i saw nothing "absolutely excellent" about his champs league effort the other night.

That's spot on. Atletico would have to be one of the favourites for the CL, they are a superb side. Very underrated though as they're in La Liga, realistically they would tear up EPL, Ligue 1 and Serie A and would probably give Bayern and Dortmund a big push in Bundesliga.

They aren't playing well in the Champions League either, they are just lucky their opponents were are awful. Bayer Leverkusen had their worst game of the season against Man Utd and Real Sociedad have had an awful start to the season worse than Man Utd.

They got lucky that their opponents just aren't up for it. Lucky for them they should have qualification sewn up in the next couple of rounds. Shakhtar at home shouldn't be a problem and neither should Real Sociedad even if it's away. They will get their arses handed to them by Leverkusen though.

Oooohhhh really? 5-0 doesn't quite sound like getting our arses handed to us. :p

That was the real Man Utd! Giggs was amazing, Kagawa was superb (and we have to find a spot for him in the team) and Rooney was his usual self.

Don't really agree with that - I see Felliani as a DM first and foremost.

Woah... hold on a minute. Why should Young be made an example of, why ban him and none of the countless foreign players who dive? Remember Ramirez' effort that robbed WBA of a much deserved win? I'm not saying it's good what Young does - it needs to be stamped out - but to single him out alone is hugely unfair.

I agree - he has been nothing like the player we saw at Everton - so far. There's yet time for that to change.

that's been coming in the CL, the sociedad games should both have been about 6-0.

my god, did anyone see Kaka's goal against celtic? that was the worst defending from a corner I have ever seen. he was just standing 5 yards from the goal with enough space to build a shed.

Leverkusen just bent over as some teams tend to do against Man Utd... They seriously aren't that bad, and neither is Man Utd that good...

It's not unfair to single out Young, he does it over and over again with different managers, all he can do now is take a tumble and unfairly earn a penalty, it's all he's good for. I'm not the only one who holds this opinion, take a look at the world, they hold this opinion. Ramires did one dive, how many times has Young? You are an English Man Utd fan and you have his shirt so of course you will be biased.

OK, so Young is the only player in the whole world who falls over all the time? Pull the other one, it has bells on.

We wiped the floor with Leverkusen - it was our performance that made them look bad.

tbf don, sometimes you have to just take it on the chin. you can't say a team will have their arses handed to them and then throw about your bravado when said team tanks the opposition 5-0.

Damn, messed up way for Juventus to exit this competition.
