Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

That was a good performance from us tonight. We were all over Leverkusen from the start pretty much and could've scored more goals. Rooney looked brilliant - back to his best and RvP was as sharp as ever. Some good work from Felliani especially in the first half, breaking up their play.

Hardly 'devoid of creativity', eh? ;)

RVP did a Torres :p and Ronaldo scored a hat trick :)

Interesting to see Lahm playing defensive mid-field.

Not really, they were in no position to sell Gustavo, Can and Tymoschuk and now with a couple of injuries they are stuck playing him there. Should've held on to Gustavo or at least Can.

Woah - I wasn't expecting that! Shocking result for Chelsea's first game; good result for Arsenal.

We are watching great magic from a magician since his first show in champions league :) Great hat trick.

I'm talking about Messi :D

Just ridiculous, losing to Basel at home is pathetic, they deserved to be knocked out for that:facepalm. Somehow I knew one of Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea would have a bit of trouble despite being in an "easy" group, looks like it's happening. I think Man City will have a problem too a bit later on.

Didn't see the second half of our game as I had to go somewhere, but our first half performance was poor. I think Dortmund losing is a good result for us too.

I think Marseille at home is a guaranteed 3 points as we pretty much never lose at home and certainly not to a team like Marseille who couldn't make use of their domination of the game and chances in the first half. So qualification is looking better now, just need a win and maybe a draw or two from Napoli and Dortmund and we'll be looking good. A first place finish is needed though.

Given how quickly Shaqiri and Xhaka were snapped up after Basel's overachieving in Europe a couple of seasons ago, it's a big surprise that no-one has put a bid in for Salah who has looked dangerous in Europe.

Streller continues to be one of the better targetmen in Europe. His linkup play is sublime and it wasn't a surprise to hear Neville attempting to blame Eto'o for the winner rather than a member of the England national team who was actually supposed to be marking Streller. :facepalm

Another brilliant performance in Europe vs Barca by England's Fraser Forster it seems as well.

What is Ramsey eating these days another assist by him and if Arsenal continue to play like this than i think they will reach the semis very easily

We absolutely have to finish top of our group for that, which means we need points either at Dortmund or at Napoli which could be a problem, though we should beat Dortmund and Marseille at home. If we get better luck with injuries it's certainly possible looking at some of our performances in the knockout rounds in the last few seasons. Thrashing Bayern at the Allianz, thrashing Milan at home and beating the unstoppable 10/11 Barca at home.
