Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Absolutely right, more trouble at an Italian football match :(

It was the Liverpool fans fault for what happened in Heysel all those years ago and all English clubs were thrown out of the European competitions. We then made all our stadiums all seaters, were reinstated and we have been great ever since.

Something like that has to happen to Italy. There was trouble at the last Man Utd game there and the police shot dead a Lazio fan las month. It shouldnt happen!

Total scum. Not only are their fans pathetic so are the police, you would never get this in England. They arrested 2 English fans no doubt for defending themselves and to make it look like its not all their fault. Roma should be chucked out of Europe forever. If this was an English club they would have been out years ago, they don't deserve CL football. Platini wants smaller clubs in, well heres your opportunity. I just hope the rest of our fans get out of their ok but thats about as likely as Rangers winning the champions league. How the police didn't stop this I don't know but to be honest I could police the game better than the entire Italian police force
100% agree, we'll probably get fined for it just like last year. You'd have thought the Italian police would have learnt, its ridiculous, the Ultras who stabbed our fans are Scumbags, the lowest of the low. Last year we had United fans being attacked in Rome, Spurs fans being attacked in Seville and I'm sure there was another one. If it was the other way around, we would be sent out of Europe. Lee, it was actually Hillsborough that brought all-seater stadiums, but your actual point is right.

The trouble and worry about our fans made the match a little less significant, but we did well to say it was our 2nd team. Again, Dong was useless for the last 20 minutes, and it just enforces my view that he's there to sell shirts. Yeah I thought about that Joe, Coventry > Roma:p. Your right about Rooney, he was everywhere, which is good in a way, but I felt maybe because of the added responsibility, he played a little too far back throughout.

Sadly, it's not gonna happen because Italian football is so corrupt that any punishment given on to them will result in a lot of horse's heads left at the side of beds.

Italians are all twats though. Except Zola and Serge.

Just heard on North West Tonight that a 16 year old boy was taken to hospital after being stabbed. Quite worrying considering a lad from my year went over there to watch the game.

Oh, that just takes the ****, the Italian police have arrested six united fans inside the ground for the violence that happened outside the ground. They can't even take the blame. Idiots, I'm considering the Italian police as scum now, *******s.

Well the videos on youtube from last time of them beating up old women pretty much proves it. United shouldn't have bothered going at all, well taking any fans anyway. Then again I guess that would mean they won but I know if I was offered tickets I wouldn't have gone. Not after what happened last time. The violence happened on the same bridge it always happens on too, why weren't their police there?

Its the nature of United fans though, we love our club and will follow them everywhere, it shouldn't come to us not going, just better policing.

The way the Italian police and 'Ultras' acted both at this game and the last one makes me ashamed to be half Italian! Absolutely disgraceful!

yeh well 4 of our fans have been locked up for 2 years now, aven't heard anything about them though. I think we should go to war with Italy.

Anyway draw today, we got Lyon, the hardest side but definitely we should win as we're at home in the second leg. Celtic are out, the scousers have got it tough but they can beat Inter, Chelsea are through, Arsenal have the toughest draw, I have to chuckle at Will saying he didn't care when they dropped points earlier on in this thread :p

My predictions:
Celtic v Barcelona
Lyon v Manchester United
Schalke v Porto
Liverpool v Inter Milan
Roma v Real Madrid
Arsenal v AC Milan
Olympiakos v Chelsea
Fenerbahce v Sevilla
Lol I predict every side playing at home in the second leg will win! It's definitely a big factor though and thats why I backed the Inter and AC, Porto was tough to call but the rest seemed obvious imo

I think Arsenal will lose to AC Milan. They couldn't even beat Sevilla.

In Sevilla. With a weakened side.

By that logic United won't beat Lyon because they couldn't even beat Bolton.

Hopefully that logic holds true ;)

Nah, even I want Man Utd to beat Lyon. Of the British teams only Chelsea's matches look like they might be a bit dull. They'll be ITV4 fodder for sure.

Well, I'll be supporting both Milan sides:D Olympiakos haven't got a hope against Chelski. I'm hopeful for United, Rangers beat Lyon 3-0 away, just couldn't finish the job at home, which I'm confident we'd do. Celtic will be fighting a losing battle, but I would like them to get through. Liverpool vs Inter is quite even, and I can see Milan beating Arsenal, partly because I think they will undo Arsenal's type of play like United do and partly because being at home in the 2nd leg is such a big factor.
