Story Chappell-Hadlee Trophy (ICC 3)

Nice ground that you play at :p

Bad loss for Australia. Clarke was appalling with the ball.

Clarke! He was obviously sick today.... :p

Nah good win for the black caps. Who are you playing as?

3rd ODI preview

The Chappell-Hadlee Trophy is about to conclude with the final match between Australia and New Zealand at TBC.

Australia team

1. Matthew Hayden
2. Adam Gilchrist (wicket-keeper)
3. Ricky Ponting (captain)
4. Michael Hussey
5. Michael Clarke
6. Andrew Symonds
7. Phil Jaques
8. Brad Hogg
9. James Hopes
10. Nathan Bracken
11. Shaun Tait

New Zealand team

1. Stephen Fleming (captain)
2. Peter Fulton
3. Lou Vincent
4. Craig McMillan
5. Jacob Oram
6. Brendan McCullum (wicket-keeper)
7. Ross Taylor
8. Scott Styris
9. James Franklin
10. Shane Bond
11. Daryl Tuffey

Australia revert back to the team that won them the first game, with Phil Jaques in for Brad Hodge and James Hopes in for Mitchell Johnson, while New Zealand are unchanged again. The Kiwis have used the same eleven players for the entire series.

Australia are the slight favourites due to their all round ability, but if New Zealand can show as much self belief as they did in the second match it could go down to the wire. It is going to be an exciting match with the destination of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy at stake.

Players to watch

Australia

Adam Gilchrist - Gilchrist will be looking for revenge after his duck in the second match. The wicket-keeper has a great command over aggressive, extravagant shots and if he gets going he could help his country build a huge total. He will also shout encouragement and advice and showcase his safe hands behind the stumps.

New Zealand

James Franklin - Franklin is in good form after taking four wickets in the second match. He will have developed plans to dismiss the Australian batsmen and to win the series for his country. The hosts will have to be careful when playing him, as if he gets one he can run through them.

New Zealand have beaten Australia by 5 wickets at TBC to retain the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy at 2-1 with all matches completed.

The tourists won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opening batsmen Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist got themselves in and then piled on the runs with ease, recapturing the form they showed in the opening match.

The pair put on a partnership of 267 before Gilchrist was caught by Stephen Fleming off the bowling of Shane Bond for 134. Hayden followed 7 runs later, leg before wicket also to Bond for 125.

Captain Ricky Ponting and middle order batsman Michael Hussey were left to see the innings out, Ponting finishing on 9 not out and Hussey on 15 not out.

After their bowling performance in the second match, New Zealand will have been disappointed with their work. Australia finished on 295-2 off their 50 overs.

Chasing, New Zealand got off to a poor start as captain Stephen Fleming was out for a duck in the first over of the innings, caught behind by Adam Gilchrist off the bowling of Shaun Tait.

Opening batsman Peter Fulton and number three Lou Vincent then shared a partnership of 71 before Vincent was out, bowled by Tait for 41.

Craig McMillan continued where Vincent left off and put on a stand of 76 with Fulton before he was run out, also for 41.

New Zealand were well up with the required run rate, thanks largely to the batting of Fulton, who was eventually out, bowled by part timer Andrew Symonds, for 111. He was the first Kiwi to score a century in the series.

Peter Fulton won the match for New Zealand with his 111

Jacob Oram was out for only 10 runs, caught by Michael Clarke off the bowling of spinner Brad Hogg, but wicket-keeper Brendan McCullum and batsman Ross Taylor saw the tourists home. McCullum finished on 58 not out and Taylor on 25 not out.

New Zealand had won by 5 wickets, scoring 296/5 with 1.2 overs to spare.

The Man of the Match award went to New Zealand opener Peter Fulton for his match winning 111.

Australia and New Zealand did battle in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, with the Kiwis retaining it after a 2-1 victory.

The competition consisted of three nail biting 50 overs per side matches which will have done the two families it is named after proud.

Summary

21st December: 1st ODI at TBC - Australia won by 9 wickets
22nd December: 2nd ODI at TBC - New Zealand won by 5 wickets
24th December: 3rd ODI at TBC - New Zealand won by 5 wickets

Man of the series

Australia

Adam Gilchrist - Gilchrist scored two centuries in the competition, one in the opening match and one in the final match, and encouraged the bowlers to give it everything, with faultless wicket-keeping in the meantime. The decision was between him and opening partner Matthew Hayden, but with his extra work in the field Gilchrist takes the crown.

New Zealand

Lou Vincent - Vincent pulled New Zealand back into the game and into a winning position with three fine innings during the series, scoring two half centuries in the process - scores of 52, 79 and 41. He made sure the Kiwi batting did not collapse and without him they would probably have lost the series.

Great work mate. Nice to see Kiwis win the series.

Fulton batted amazingly in the last match and Vincent deserved Man of the Series.

Well done mate :clap

In real life Vicent had a shocker of a series.

Oh well, we will get them next time.
