The middle order batsman from Zimbabwe just smashed what is now the equal highest individual score in a One Day International.

An unforgettable day for Charles Coventry

This is the kind of knock that could give him the confidence to step it up against the top nations like South Africa, India, Australia, etc.

My question is though - What are your thoughts on the likes of Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Kenya & the Associates? Do you see them being competitive sometime in the near future, or will they remain the bottom dwellers for quite some time to come?

Give your thoughts.

I think Bangladesh and Zimbabwe can give any team a run for their money.
They just are inconsistent and that is their problem.
And That Knock was brilliant.:hpraise

Same reply.:D

I saw that innings live :D

They can be competitive if they play more. Zim were horrible in the first two games, but once they warmed up, they came back nicely. Let these sides play against the top nations more, and you'll see them put up more of a fight.

If Zimbabwe wasn't in such a political crisis it could have had an incredibly good team! They have had a load of talent from their side. Must be said though, this match is quite a good one. Not just 2 100's, but 2 150's!

I always thought Charles Coventry was a great talent. When I saw him for the first time, years ago in a tri nation series(India, New Zeland, Zimbabwe), I was thrilled at the ball hitting prowess of this man;looked a bit like Daniel Vettori with those specs on. He, however disappeared from International Scene later, due to his inconsistency, perhaps. Anyways, he's back and that too with a bang, should stay in the team for a while now. Also, Chimgumbra is really playing well, this team is talented(BrandonTaylor, Sean Williams and Prosper Utsya). It is such a pity that their board is not giving them the kind of support they need, really missing Taibu here as well. That lad was talented too. Hope they do well in future. :laugh

Unforgettable innings, he took his team over the 300 mark on his own just like Anwar did against India.

Let them battle. Its fun if they play each other rather than Top test nations.

So now he is top of the list of Top scorers in ODI match, because Anwar was out on 194,while Coventry is 194*,but he really played well, but in vain, rest of the players didnt score much

great knock. some of the shots he played was out of the book. but i will say this again...

also not many people will know about this. or rate it very high. if he was from any other top 8 nations then it would have been a big thing. people shouldnt go "its only against Bangladesh" Tendulkar, Lara, Hayden, Shewag, and many other faced bangladesh before, but they couldnt do it.

and most of these big runs came off of big players bat vs minnow teams. (check the list).

Tendulkar's highest score is 183* against NZ in India, also he scored 160* odd recently (i dont really remember the exact score,he was retired hurt),yes nobody managed 200 in ODI,even Gibbs was there around 175,Dhoni 183...

Win or loss, this marvel man's innings will be remembered forever.

Excellent knock! If A pinch more, 200 wasn't any far.

The video of Charles' marvelous innings is available at YouTube, till now the news channels here just gave a quick scoreboard but after this a half an hour highlighjts were shown.

Never under-estimate any player, everyone is special and class player in his own way!

Master's stroke! :hpraise

Played great innings.Didn't saw him live but saw that he made it when i saw i was amazed.

Great inning's but unfortunately then also zimbabwe on loosing side.:)

Well done to him. Awesome to see Zimbabwe playing good cricket and getting high scores. He was a lone hand sadly and they still lost. Really gutted.

Wow must have been an awesome innings. He's my favourite Zimbabwe player now even though his name sounds like he should be part of the royal family:p
