Cricket 19 General Discussion

Hmm, okay. I should add this is more in career mode, playing international cricket. Its more just quirks than anything, like the AI changing the fields every ball, and then not bowling to said field. I can live with it, but I feel this can definitely be improved upon next game. Given the amount of content for these games, and the studio size, I'm not expecting perfection or a revolution in AI programming, I am a realist, this is me just being more hopeful than anything.

surely in career mode it’s more important? If every club and county bowler lands it on a line and length like McGrath, what’s the progression? What’s the difference in facing a good attack or facing Zimbabwe?

I think you've been taking your daily exercise too close to the 5G towers @blockerdave

It did take me just 19 balls of blocking and a couple of leaves to get into the top tier of confidence. Without a run. While the bowler, who had got 3 maidens, was still in the amber tier.

Definitely something at play here though.. I have been 40 not out and still in amber before haha. I’d love to know what it is!

I had Hansie Cronje score a century yesterday and he was still on amber - there were alot of play and missed, which seems to play a part

@WealeyH Think I did a long winded post about confidence, understanding that is way too late for a radical change, in the beta.

I'd like to see it milestone based and probably linked to confidence.

Examples

Conservative batsman - bats in a test match through to lunch (or the rough equivalent 2 hours/100 balls) plus reaching 50 runs = full confidence
Precise - bats for 90 minutes + 50 runs
Balanced - bats for 1 hour/50 balls + 50 runs
Aggressive - strike rate 60 + 50 runs
Brute - scores 75% boundaries + strike rate 70

Now while I was doing some washing up, I thought this is where you could build in strengths and weaknesses.

You give David Warner a 'Test Match - England' weakness ('in 13 Tests across three Ashes series, he averages 26 and has still never scored a century there'). You could make a weakness double the requirements. So, let's say he's aggressive; he would require 100 runs before he's fully confident. Or maybe the weakness means he never makes it to fully confident.

Lol, true. But I'm not talking about guys bowling McGrath lengths, more common sense. If you have an offside field, you bowl outside off, the occasional on off or at the legs to surprise the batsman. Instead, AI gets caught up in bowling a leg stump line for 5 balls an over for quite some time.

I'm not nagging, just one of the quirks with AI sometimes.

I've a couple of questions. I'm trying to make the AI select a few more fields during AI vs AI cricket. I want them to select a couple more slips and maybe a bat pad during 100 over a side games. I know these are classed as limited overs games as per the editor. I know the AI only uses certain fielding tactics during limited over like "balanced, start of innings, powerplay and defensive etc.)

1. The "start of innings" fielding tactic.. Does that mean the start of the team innings in an ODI or the start of an individual's innings?

2. Does the AI actually select fields that you create? (As long as you have that button checked)

@WealeyH @blockerdave @Dutch @wasteyouryouth

Thanks!

What started as a blocking experiment turned into a pretty nice batting experience. That was until Azhar chopped one into his face and it looped up behind (not complaining about the dismissal, missing out the century is a bastard).

Medium bounce/Dusty - looking for a decent subcontinent pitch. Soft/Very Soft bounce is too low. My view on a Dusty pitch is that is should be a spinning pitch. Hence the Medium/Dusty set up. Not sure about pitch wear or cracks.

Bounce is good seamers, I think it's too low for spinners. Not sure if that's because of the low bowling speed or perhaps something to do with lengths in general. Still, it was quite enjoyable and rather than capitulating to spin it was the pace bowlers that were my undoing.

I didn't run the 'easy' singles that I know are there; my run rate would probably be closer to 4 even after blocking the first 10 overs. Although there might be a run out in there too. If I know the AI is not going to respond well to me running singles in the 30 yard circle then I will just run when it feels natural. Shouldn't have to be that way, but it frankly gets more boring/frustrating for me if I'm misstiming or hitting to a fielder then running with a dive every ball rather than just blocking and leaving.

If this was to be classed as a 'spinners' pitch, there was significant turn on Day One, then I'd want to see a greater share of the overs for the spinner. There's just one in the side so that might have an impact but I he wasn't on until at least over 16 and then I think they would be used with the seamers rotating. After 150 run partnership a fifth bowler should probably be tried too (there's Vihari who I think is a batting all rounder and spinner). The way overs are distributed is something that could do with looking at across formats though.

The only change I think I made was AI bowling at 100 on Veteran and my own custom batting setting. @WealeyH whatever reason, maybe it's something to do with what @MattW was saying earlier, but Veteran definitely feels like the way to go. Of course I've not bowled yet.

I have never ever touched Legend.. Veteran all day for every game so far for me!

Spin bounce is very odd. Did you make R1 X hit top of off or did you leave it!?
