Cricket 2004 Q&A - the official answers

I agree with Salman1k, for an Alpha build it has improvements on cricket 2002 allready, i think ea could suprise us with a corker of a game here, having worked with programming in the past and computer graphics projects for small scale games even i know and appreciate that a game goes through different stages of graphical capacity and should improve by time the final renderware build is complete, maybe the programming part of my job just helps me appreciate the hours these guys put in aswell, seeing as a few games i worked on werent big projects it must be even more difficult for these guys to produce a cricket game under the upmost pressure from fans and the media (mainly internet) - its to tough an old job to do, for us to be knocking every move of EA and HB.
Looking at some features of the game and even just the slightest elements of the screenshots it gives positive vibes to me as a cricket fan in general as i believe this game has promise. I did buy cricket 2002 and it was dissapointing, but for me i just looked upon it as expecting to much, some people were just expecting the world with the first release of the new EA series of the ps2 era ( excluding 2000 and 97 etc ) and you may not think it but it was a relitively solid platform to go onwords and upwords from.

- you may think im some kind of EA suck... or something with the sort of back off EA approach ive give in this post etc..... but i think that EA is doing the best job it can with finances and licenceors etc..... and im expecting a vast improvement with this game and im sure it will be a great success.

Impressive Indeed. As pointed out already, the graphics are not great, but really, who cares about the graphics anyway ! As long as the game plays well. They have introduced some innovative concepts (like the confidence meter) and it seems like there is going to be a really good player editor as well as domestic teams and tournaments.

they are ALPHA pics ...which means the gfx wont be very good...they look decent to me..and at the finish they'll look superb

as u saw the 1st one shows the editor

this shows player celebrations

im loving this game
plzzzzzzzzzz ea release it

a few questions:-

will players have names and numbers on their shirts this time instead of just numbers?

Will the day/night simulation be more realistic this time around, for example, instead of one innings in the most perfect light and blazing sunshine and then all of a sudden its pitch black night time in the second innings (run chase) ( like cricket2002) is there a dusk (sunset) period?

also will day night conditions effect the ball e.g. more swing like in real day/night games?

and also there were no shadows of the floodlights in the last version so you could hardly tell if it were a day/night game - will this be included?

will the game include overthrows and less robotic wicket keepers? e.g. the ball coming in on the bounce etc instead of in the keepers gloves every time?

will game play be more like cricket 97?

can bad light end play early?

with the editor can you make a team e.g. create your own kit like on FIFA2002 and then put players in it and give it a name? not just make players for existing teams.

a huge problem with the last game in my opinion was not being able to play two players on the same team. will this be possible on this version?

will domestic grounds be included for the domestic games e.g. Hove, Taunton etc...

can players retire hurt?

will the season mode include tour matches e.g. against A sides and president XI?s or is the season mode just for domestic teams and if so will all local trophies and comps be included ( county championship, NCL, C&G, 20-20??? )

I would be extremely grateful if you could answer these questions, and I will be eagerly awaiting this game.

what about the standard number of overs in a day in a test match? will it be the reality of 90 overs or only 80?

Looking at those screens, the motion capture looks mighty impressive to me, even though it'll be difficult to tell for sure untill we see moving footage. The Editor looks amazing, even a choice of bats!!
One thing that strikes me immediately about the interface and feel of this game just from seeing a few screens is an amazingly alike game to 'cricket97' which is in my opinion the best all round cricket game around (still!!) obviously excluding graphics. the menu on the editor is reminiscent. Lets hope it carries all the gameplay of that title, and with the features and the new graphics it all adds up to a mighty impressive game for sure!

To me this also likes like a few early screens of the game, maybe not but if so we can expect more improvement. Also that report reads well doesent it - on futuregamez site. Even the inclusion of South African sides aswell inluding English and Australian (domestic) It seems all who have had a early taste of the game are impressed.

Yesterday i also heared a rumour that EA have released screens of the game???? (not these ones i think) and i heared that the official site is almost ready for launch, i found this out in an e-mail off a mate, im not sure if its genuine but he claimed he had info from EA but i would think the official site would be up soon anyway with all these screens being released on game sites. If i get more info ill let you guys know.

I guess a few of my questions were answered in that preview with the 'high detail' shadows for d/n, and also by looking at the screens i guess names wont be on the shirts.
.....But may i say, what a brilliant game this seems to be, well done EA on including these new features.

Ive had a look at another preview of Cricket 2004 and this one seems to be even more promising than the previous one, once again ive taken out key quotes - here are my views once more.

To say that EA Sports Cricket 2004 is improved somewhat is an understatement.

- This is music to the ears of us cricket fans who are relishing a top cricket game at long last

This game is a complete overhaul of the original, and looks absolutely brilliant as a result.

- once more this quote comes straight from the horses mouth so to speak, meaning they have seen and probably played the game, ive heared a lot about the look and feel of the game and it all gives positive vibes

With a development period of approximately 18 months the developers, HB Studios, have been able to pack this game full of additional features and options.

- good positive news once more, and the additional features and options that are being quoted here look absolutely amazing with the domestic sides of four nations ( Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa ), a wonderful new look interface to the game, 75 stadia, all the new trophies and much more...

Cricket 2004 will include domestic teams and competitions from England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa

- what more can I say than fantastic, and especially for gamers from the nations involved

Playstation 2 version will have 4-player support for some 2-on-2 action.

- This is certainly a key area that I have definitely been quizzing EA over in numerous e-mails in past months, the abillity to play with another human player against two others, brilliant!

the game will include a Master League. According to EA's press release the Master League will be a highlight of this game

- sounds great, hopefully this means the abillity for a league packed with the best domestic sides worldwide involved e.g. Surrey and Lancashire from England, NSW, Victoria from Australia and also the best from New Zealand and South Africa, ( but obviously you can choose what teams you want in it ) like Pro Evolution soccer from all of the domestic range. Hopefully there will also be a International feature similar

The game will revolve around a full TV style presentation including a full action replay mode, third umpire, animated ducks

- Logically this will obviously improve realism and more realism gives a better game in my opinion, and the old animated ducks like on Australian tv, excellent

EAsports Cricket 2004 will include over 75 stadia will be modeled from all over the world, including Lords in England, Calcutta, Melbourne, Auckland, Cape Town, Barbados and Lahore.

- This also sounds highly promising, surely there must be some domestic grounds in there, if so, well done EA as this will once again be a great feature for a die hard domestic fan

During test matches the pitch will even degrade over time. Lighting (the game does include day/night matches) and shadows are of the highest grade

- At long last EA have finally taking into account what we have all been pleading for inclusion for years, a wearing pitch for Murali, Warne and company to exploit on the 5th day of a test match, and also another question that I asked EA about has been answered, the shadows for day/night games - as you couldn't tell weather it was night on cricket 2002 as there were no shadows surrounding the batsman and fielders.

together with real time weather will all add to authenticity of the playing experience.

- Real time weather sounds really good, it will make for more realistic and authentic play

The in-game graphics certainly look impressive with a dramatic increase in the detail on the players faces and bodies

- It is great that the new game will include different physiques and more detailed players along with impressive graphics and a ?dramatic increase in detail? sounds excellent

including various body sizes.

- this will add realism to the game and will make many of us happy who complained of the lack of this in 2002

the crowd effects are based on real crowd sounds from around the world.

- This one really interests me, imagine the barmy army singing along to the England team, or the hostile crowds of India or Pakistand getting on your back..

They have certainly had enough time to add tonnes of detail to the game.

- Just emphasising that EA has spent a lot of time on the game ( 18 months to be exact ) but it is time well spent as the game boasts excellent new features and gameplay, along with lots more from what I've eared of the game

Expect a release for this title in time for Christmas.

- Doesn't this just put the icing on the cake, a post Christmas release ( even if just in the southern hemisphere - ill be getting it shipped from Australia anyhow so it doesent bother me when its released over here in the UK)

I really do think this will be a real gem of a game that us gamers will enjoy for years to come, until the next release whenever that may be. I am eagerly awaiting this game and more than ever after positive previews and looking forward to release

what are the opinions of the rest of you after reading such positive previews

the graphics look pretty good.
but a couple of things i would like to point out are
1.the crowd looks the same.
2.the side screen even for one-dayers with white ball remains white.
