Why is it that this thread has been such an Aussie bash? This is an ICC decision that we are agreeing with. It's important that we don't overuse Twenty20 because it is affecting other forms of the game. It has its place as a seperate form of the game but it is by no means the be all and end all of future cricket.
We must safeguard all forms of the game, not just push ahead with one and neglect the rest.
50-50 becomes boring after 20 overs till 40th over.
20-20 is future and we should accept it. 50-50 was greated with same denial when it started but then became the most popular brand of cricket. Test cricket also benefited from ODI in sense that game became fast and more results have started to come. Therefore to say 20-20 will eat Test cricket is wrong and anyone who thinks so should not watch test cricket anymore.
First of all, it is called One Day International Cricket, not 50-50. And if that is your opinion then I feel sorry for you because you obviously have no appreciation for anything that doesn't move at full pace. Personally I find that it's just as exciting watching struggles between bat and ball as quick wickets and big sixes. I enjoy slower cricket because it is interesting, not necessarily as exciting as Twenty20 but I firmly believe that it brings out better cricket from all players.
If you all are so convinced that Australians hate Twenty20 because we didn't win the World Cup then good for you, enjoy it. Anything can happen in a Twenty20, and whilst it may be good for competition, like I said before, it does not bring a true representation of cricket and how it was created. It is a lot more luck than any other form, the 5 day match means that a side can begin a match terribly but recover and stage a comeback. It means that side needs to do so much more than hit a big score quickly in the space of a few hours. It is a true test of a team and player's abilities over 5 long, tough days.
If you can't appreciate it and think it's boring, then it's not for you, but that it is, for me at least, what cricket is truly about. I'm not asking for Twenty20 to be destroyed, but I'm asking for moderation.
And for the record, anyone who thinks Australia are not embracing Twenty20 cricket have got no idea, because if you have a look at the crowds in both domestic and international Twenty20 games, you'll see that they are incredibly high for domestic, and are on the larger side for international too.
It says something that the people who enjoy cricket enough to post on forums about their opinions and discuss it with others, are the ones who aren't into Twenty20, doesn't it?
