Jamaica wins matches, lose confidence of players
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a much better show by Jamaica, the visitors convincingly beat Niue in the second of the three ODI match series against Niue. The home team won the toss and elected to bat first on a lush green surface, a decision that they would have regreted with the Jamaican pace battery had them 4 down for 38 to eventually bowl them out for a meagre 139 with Miller picking up three wickets while Walters, Coverly and McKay picking up 2 wickets each. Skipper Walters returned to score an unbeaten 43 as he led his team from the front to victory.
However, everything was not goody goody for Jamaica. Even before the match, the inclusion of Coverly surprised many. What was even more surprising was the absence of Middlesex seamer Butch Jones right before the match. He was said to be suffering from 'mild fever' at the time of toss by the Jamaican captain. Our sources said that the senior batsman Dick Punani had a rift with the skipper due to his decision of not playing Jones. The argument was quite heated and if the rumours are to be believed Dick Punani even threatened to pull out of the tour before seamer Miller who was present at the time of the incident took upon him to settle the issue. This was however, declined by the coach and the captain of the team even as Dick Punani remained unavailable for the comment.
Our sources on the other hand stated that there might two groups in the team due to the incident. This might have an adverse effect on the third and final match against Niue but during the press conference the head team Carl Hooper looked confident for winning series 3-0. If the statement by the head coach Carl Hooper is anything to go by, the atmosphere in the dressing room does not really seem as healthy. "Jones suffered from mild fever on the eve of the match so we did not take any chances and let him take enough rest. He is now fit and will certainly play in the third match. He even bowled in the nets today however, the bad news is that one of his rising deliveries hit DP on the left thumb and he couldn't continue the nets. We would not take any chances ahead of the upcoming three match test series and with the series already in our bag we would opt for a fully fit DP so you can expect some changes in the side but we would take no less than 3-0 from the series"
Final XI: Colin Philip, Chris Ricardo, Shavar Powell, Ricky Brown, Yohan Quarrie , Patrick Walters , Jerome Salmon , Tyrone Miller , Butch Jones , Binta Chin , Jermaine McKay
Tagging @The Author and @VC the slogger so they do not sim with wrong eleven again and someone do not suffer from 'mild fever' just before the toss.
